Africa

Ha ha, I have reached the summit!

About Me

For those who don't know, me, yes my real name is Africa. Africa Andrea Espina Talamilla to be exact. I'm from Chile but it's not a common name there, nor here, nor anywhere. Why? Well I have Inca blood and the Inca's used to be in Africa, o no?

Puta que se pasa bien en Chile por la chucha weon.
I'm generally a positive person but what is missing on this layout is an area where you can list the things you don't like. They called it critical thinking in grade school remember? Here goes.DISLIKES: Greediness, apathy, SUVs, Bush, weapons of mass distraction, relying on convenience, car nation USA, fast food, dishonesty and secret lives,... salad dressings.

My Interests

Running around Iowa City aimlessly, futbol y la copa mundial, hot Argentinian futbol players, tomatoes dressed with olive oil and salt, lettuce tossed with olive oil lemon and salt, tender hearted artichokes, yerba mate, Iowa City Farmer's Market, Spanish rrrrrrrrrrrs, NPR, BBC World News, slowly and meticulously learning Russian, reviving my French language, interpreting at the Free Medical Clinic, playing violin with the Iowa City Community String Orchestra, meowing with my cats, getting lost in music at work, steep solo hikes, sitting in the front seat of an old wooden rollar coaster and feeling like you're flying out of your seat, the occasional jump out of an airplane, space travel, earth travel, backpacking Chile, flying dreams, flying pigs

I'd like to meet:

Other people named Africa, Gremlins, Leprechauns, Spock, Chester Copperpot, Venus, Kafka, Darwin. Thom Yorke. Gypsy violin players.Realistically speaking, I like people who appreciate the simple things in life and don't get carried away by modern excess. Like my grandpa who loves (to raise) goats and fruit trees.

Music:

Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Phish, Radiohead and Dvorak top my list. My roots lie in classical music so I naturally enjoy anything with a strong melody, rhythm, dynamics, and exceptional balance between parts. Although I must admit I'm a sucker for music that makes me dance. I love to see live shows but most of them are TOO LOUD. Lately I've explored Devotchka, Fujiya and Miyagi, Gotan Project, Andrew Bird, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and Vogelsang. On the local IC scene I dig The Gglitch, Orquestra de Salsa Alto Maiz, Public Property, and New Beat Society. Other bands and composers on my list include Manu Chao, The Beatles, David Bowie, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Buena Vista Social Club, NIN, Chicago Afrobeat Project, The Flaming Lips, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Respighi, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, MWW, Louis Armstrong, Sly and the Family Stone, Particle, Calexico and Chancho en Pierda. Oh, and most importantly my favorite dj is The Lady Espina out of Minacapa Productions. She's hot.

Movies:

Anything Stanley Kubrick and Monty Python Flicks

Television:

Don't really watch too much boob tube. But I try to get my healthy dose of the Simpsons and Seinfeld.

Books:

Odes of Pablo Neruda, Garcia Marquez, Ayn Rand,...

Heroes:

Mommy and Daddy

Sunny London

It was sunny my first weekend in London. Tim and Alice, dear friends I made while studying abroad in Chile 7 years ago, made sure I realized it wasn't typical London winter weather. The firs...
