About Me

I live two, nay, three lives. Sounds cool enough. Life #1: I spent most of my 20s in Montreal, studying at McGill University. I finished my M.Sc. in Neurological Sciences in 2002, and I'm trying to finish my Ph.D. in the same area now. Yeah, I'm still a nerd, but that's just life #1. Life #2: At night, I get my creative rocks off by singing/arranging music in a band. I suppose it sounds a little cliché, but whatever gets me through... The Blue Monkey Project is mostly made up of other "nerds" who also need to get their musical juices flowing. Together, we play lots of styles, such as jazz, blues, rock, pop, funk, old r&b, and disco. Outside of the academic music circuit, I was also a singer in Montreal's original reggae/hip-hop/r&b group Killawatt for the last two years. I've also recently completed some songs with an upcoming hip-hop artist, Lennie Moreno. You can check our video below this section, and then listen to the rest of his music in the player below that! If you want more details about why some bands didn't work out, or just want to read about being stuck between lives 1 and 2, feel free to read my blog! (But for most of these blogs, you'll have to be added as a friend to read them...) Life #3 is a blast from the past: dutiful daughter/goodie two-shoes whenever I travel back to my hometown in NYC, someone with a past history of a strong connection to a particular youth group...
Random things: 1) Back in high school, my main instrument was the violin; sadly, that's taken a back seat lately. 2) I've managed to link lives #1-2 together: my thesis is focusing on how the brain helps us sing in tune. So, watch out American Idol tryout rejects, I'm looking for ya! 3) My closet looks like it belongs to someone with a multiple personality disorder. There are "reserved" clothes for working in a hospital, and then there are those outfits from previous shows with other bands: push-up corset, camouflage pants, see-through shirts, plunging necklines...

a good reminder message: The Paradox of Our Time

I just read a very eloquent piece that was posted as a bulletin, which claims that it was written by George Carlin, the comedian.  As it turns out, a little research refutes this claim.  App...
