About Me

"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." -Robert F. Kennedy
"I believe that man will not merely endure. He will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance." -William Faulkner
What to say about myself? I guess all I can say is what I know about myself. I live in the big city, but often dream of the country. I have Faulknerian fantasies of country roads and creaky porch swings on lazy summer afternoons. My reality is nothing like this. It is much more modern and ironic. I work in advertising, but have given up watching television or listening to commercial radio because I hate being advertised to. I feel like an old soul and wonder if I might just have been born into the wrong era. Music, although an impractical pursuit, moves me in a transcendent way few things can. My principle devices are highly distorted, reverbed-out electric guitars, musical saw or ukulele. My standard uniform is an oxford shirt with rolled up sleeves and blue jeans, sometimes with a tie. This over-practical attire is half way between well-dressed and casual, and can be worn in almost all situation in Southern California (sleeves can be worn rolled up on warm days, and down on on cold days). I like to read and to write and do not find enough time for either. I love to travel cross country or read On The Road and dream about traveling cross country. I am a sucker for Americana and nostalgic to a fault.

My Interests

Music, American Studies, americana, history, writing, reading, graphic and web design, public radio, social issues, politics, philosophy, people watching, most things vintage, 8mm home films, guitar tech, architecture, installation art, BLTs.

I'd like to meet:

Interesting people. People who think for themselves. People who are a little strange. No good consumers.

At 1:23 AM this morning a car alarm blared outside. Not atypical of our ghetto little neighborhood, however, the horn contined to blare for 2 minutes straight until it fizzled out in the odd and lones...

Dear Diary (My Peeping Tom)

Hey diary. You know, I think I've got you all figured out. All you do is sit and listen to me pour out my soul. No, you don't say anything, but I know what you're thinking. But you can't live my life ...
