LIBRARIANSHIP- Profession of the overeducated! :-D

About Me

I'm a normal enough kind of girl. I love to read (I work at a library!). I love to meet new, interesting people. I love to try new foods. Most of my friends are what I like to call "imports" because "imports" has a better connotation than "immigrants". I love anything Russian, i.e. food (yumminess!!!), culture, drinking, language, etc. Hmmm.... If there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask! :-)

I am also in the process of finding and redefining myself because I got lost on the way to making someone else happy (at which task I failed M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-Y). If I seem glum as of late, it's gloom well deserved after 4.5 years, so please let me wallow. And no, I do NOT hate Russians or Russian men.(As a matter of fact, I am a BIG fan of DWTS's Maxim Chmerkovskiy!) I will just be more cautious in the future.

My Interests

Books (I work at a library!), foreign Languages (esp Slavic languages), new cultures, new food, new friends. Not interested in a romantic relationship.

I'd like to meet:

Normal people interested in normal things like culture, chatting, and making new friends.

Music:

I listen to a bit of everything from Nirvana to the Goo Goo Dolls to Toby Keith to Tchaikovsky. My newest favorites are Zemfira (best classified as a Russian female rock performer) and 5'nizza (best described as Ukrainian/Russian reggae/rappers who have a lot of fun making music). Local bands are pretty good. Scythian plays in town a lot and are always great to listen to at Mick O'Shea's. Hmmm... I also like Trans Siberian Orchestra, a lot of old ballad songs (Like 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'), I love John Denver, movie and musical soundtracks are always good (current favorites include 'Shrek 2' and 'Phantom of the Opera' and I am HOPING that I will get 'Sweeny Todd' for Christmas ***hint hint***)... yeah, I guess I am pretty ecclectic. :-)

Movies:

I'm a big fan of horror and action movies.I also like documentaries (I am a geek!). I am big on action films, musicals turned movie, and classic/contemporary books turned movie. On occasion, I'll enjoy a chick flick, but I have to be in the mood for it. Hmmm... I also like a lot of foreign films just because foreign directors are more creative than most American directors and I don't mind subtitles much.

Television:

OMG! I am such a Jeopardy junkie! I'm also a fan of CSI (all of them), Cold Case, NCIS (gotta love Abby!), Without a Trace and other things that make me think. :-D I also like animated stuff like Family Guy, King of the Hill, and Inuyasha.

Books:

Don't really have just one favorite, but I do like a few particular authors like Anne Rice, Stephen King, Laurell K. Hamilton, Karen Marie Moning, Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, Katie MacAlister, Mary Janice Davidson... The list just goes on and on! I also am addicted to fairy tales from around the world, but maybe that's because I like happy endings! :-) I have also gotten into a lot of teen fiction and have been suprised that there is good teen lit nowadays. Stephanie Meyers' 'Twilight' series is addictive (but has left me hanging till FALL of 2008!) and Scott Westerfeld's 'Uglies' series made me think. I like that in a book!

What a craptastic weekend...

Before anyone asks, no, I most definitely did NOT have a good weekend. Someone was moved to thrust into my face any and every imperfection and flaw that, in their opinion, I seem to have. These kinds ...

Lamenting the loss of Androgyny and Care-free Nature of Youth

Am I the only one who realizes that human beings have a tendency to make empty promises at trying times in their lives? I want to go beyond the whole, "Let me pray to a God I've never acknowledged bef...
