Yukiyo Takabayashi... and any cool down-to-earth people, especially in the Etowah/Hendersonville/Fletcher/Mills River/Horseshoe/Penrose/Pisgah Forest/Brevard area that like to chill, listen to music, watch movies (check my "movies" list; I have weird taste), play video games (NO SPORTS), talk and/or just hang out. All my friends live in Asheville and it's a loooong drive when you work 'till midnight 5 days a week.
This could take a bit... off the top of my head:
Art Blakey, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Leon Parker, Charlie Hunter, Medeski Martin & Wood, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Louis Jordan, Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Atmosphere, Klose, early Wu-Tang, early Redman, The Roots, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Brand Nubian, UTFO, Run DMC, LL Cool J (up to & including "Mama Said Knock You Out"), Mos Def, Queen Latifah, early Ice Cube, Todd Terry, Masters At Work, Kevin Saunderson, Deep Dish, Ron Trent, Dana Kelley, Freaky Chakra, Garth, Mark Kinchin, Todd Edwards, Alexander Kowalski, Ed Rush & Optical, Digital, Trace (pre '04 and esp. pre '99), Dillinja (pre '99), LTJ Bukem, Photek, Tactile, Fanu, Klute, DB, Silent Witness, Fierce, Cause4Concern, Goldie, Nosia & Predator, Konflict, Loxy & Ink, Polar, Teebee, Soundgarden, Fishbone, early Pearljam, The Jets, Paul Hardcastle, Art Of Noise, Kraftwerk, Les Nubians, Sade, Anita Baker, Janet Jackson, Roger Troutman/Zapp, Cameo, DJ Shadow, Rollercone, Le Gooster, Amon Tobin, Funki Porcini, 9 Lazy 9, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, The Odd Toot, DJ Krush, Newcleus, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Bob Marley, Black Uhura... I'll add more later; I'm tired :)
Kill Bill 1 & 2, Requiem For A Dream, Pi, Monster, The Blues Brothers, Ghost In The Shell, Akira, The Matrix trilogy, The Lawnmower Man, Reefer Madness, Casablanca, Reservoir Dogs, Face-Off, Slingblade, The Maltese Falcon, Cabin In The Sky, Clerks, The Red Door, Samson vs. The Vampire Women, Scarface, The Mosquito Coast... mostly weird stuff; action movies, documentaries, drama that's VERY light on the romance crap (romance mixed with vengeance is ok), anime, suspense and psychological thrillers (although I haven't had a good scare since "Poltergeist" back when it was new).
I've never seen Titanic, Legends Of The Fall, The Notebook, Legally Blonde 1/2 or Grease, and if things go according to plan that will never change.
TV was made for DVD's and the PS2 ;). However, I'll occasionally watch Wife Swap (because I work at the station it airs on), Extreme Makeover Home Edition (ditto), Desparate Housewives (ditto 2x), Boston Legal (ditto 3x), South Park, King Of the Hill, Invader Zim, a bunch of stuff on Adult Swim, Excel Saga, Boondocks, The Forensic Files and anything educational that I might stumble across on the rare occasions when a remote is in my hand. Oh yes, and Deadwood... can't forget Deadwood. Those cocksuckers are damn entertaining...
I'm a fan of non-fiction, biographies and random tidbits of knowledge... for instance my latest favorite book is the Dictionary of Superstitions, but previous ones include "Yes I Can" by Sammy Davis Jr. and "Confessions Of A Songbird" by Diana Ross... however, I cannot claim that I read much; these few books have been spread out over a number of years.Do the instruction manual to Logic Audio or the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Manual count?
