About Me

HEY!!! It's 3:00 a.m. on 12-27-2007. I'm back from Chile and putting the finishing touches on SIX MAGICS new record. I'll try and put up some new stuff asap but it takes sometimes takes a full day of transferring things from old DAT cassettes. In the meantime, here are few tracks from some previous records I've produced.Manz End is from Wales based Lethargy. This a great F**CKING record!!! Watch out for it in early 2008. Dream Theater's "Metropolis" is from my personal favorite, "Images and Words". "Siente El Silencio" is from Chilean rock group Fahrenheit. Chilean musicians are incredibly devoted and technically proficient. The last track is from one of my first recordings as a drummer in 1976.Born James David Prater in Ft.Worth, Texas, I'm known mainly as a record producer. I rarely work in the U.S. Originally a drummer, at the age of 20 I was officially a member of Santana (1976). Records I've produced have sold millions of copies domestically and internationally. Dream Theater's "Images and Words" and 'Change of Seasons" for Atco/East West. Firehouse's 1st and 2nd records on Sony/Epic. The movie "Dirty Dancing" singles "I've had the time of my life" (Academy Award winner) and "Hungry Eyes", although, due to pre-existing legal constraints, as of the present time I've yet to be formally acknowledged for the role I played in their creation. Nevertheless, it must be stated that without my involvement, the songs as the public has come to know them wouldn't exist. Including all the songs featured on this page, I've literally produced, engineered, mixed and performed on more records than I can remember.
