She later studied percussion andmusic theory in college, inspired by Latin artists like Harry Belfonte and Tito Puenté. Frequenting the legendaryParadise Garage (NYC) and influenced by the late New York House and Garage fixture DJ Larry Levan, Hand beganbuying records in the late-80's and returned to Detroit to begin collaborating with the Collier brothers, Greg andKen, residenting their Zipper's club in Detroit and launching her own Acacia imprint by 1990. She released herdebut 12" "Think About It" under her 'K.Hand' pseudonym to avoid gender stereotyping and backlashes.Additional 12" hits like "Everybody," "Flash Back" and "Mystery" cemented her career and by 1994 her name took offin earnest with equally strong Techno and House releases throughout the early and mid-90's to date breaking hername overseas, appearing on R&S Records (Belguim), Warp (UK), Distance (France), Reload (UK), Tresor, K7 & Ausfahrt (Germany) to name a few.alongside various high-profile compilation appearances in addition to her regular Acacia Records recordings.Tresor's first contact with Kelli Hand came via Eddie "Flashin'" Fowlkes when he compiled the "Detroit Technosoul"compilation in 1993 (Tresor 8). She also appeared on 1997's "Tresor 5" compilation and on Globus Mix Vol. 2.: ADecade Underground by Blake Baxter.Working together with 'Mad' Mike Banks, Jeff Mills and Derrick May helped her become one of Detroit's top producersand not just one of the top female producers, championing the equality of women in dance music while notablyforging important remixes for Carl Craig's Paperclip People and Argonic projects and bringing out the first-everWamdue Kids recordings.In a scene and a business utterly monopolized by men, she's the only female producer, DJ, remixer and label bossaround. 2007Just Released, Hand Executive Produces the new Ananda Project along with Chris Brann, Album entitled, "Fireflower" on King Street-New York out now!
