It’s time to a make a change. With a medley of recycled forgotten material and fresh new tunes, Adam Michael has put out his first solo album in a couple years called “sanatorium road.†For a couple years, being fully committed with his musical education, Adam put aside his real passion for music…. song writing.
Adam first picked up the guitar at the age of 12, choosing it over the piano, which was his first instrument played since the age of 7. Since then Adam’s involvement in bands has taken precedence over everything. In bands such as No Connection, Chapter One, and the Transient, Adam was performing a few times a week with representation from labels such as Raw Energy. This is where Adam’s song writing begun, and was to later develop into something much more accomplished.
Along side Adam’s natural growth; his musical growth bloomed as well. With influences such as Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkle and many others, Adam started writing and performing on his own. His first solo self-titled album was recorded and released in 2000. The same year is the year when Adam decided that music would be his career and life long journey, and enrolled himself in Mohawks 4 year applied music program on the guitar.
Later he realized that this decision meant he had to put other aspirations on the back burner. Though continuing in bands to make money to live, Adam’s solo career did just that. To receive the 4 scholarships Adam did in school, he had to sacrifice his creative outlet. All this said though, Adam’s finger picking, ear, and tonal understanding has improved considerably thanks to his education.
During Adam’s term at school Adam joined a reggae band called “The Next Best Thing.†With this accomplished band of 8 years, Adam has been playing in almost every club and bar in the area and across the country, including Victoria’s Ska Fest and a couple sold out shows at the Opera House. It is in this band that Adam has played with some big acts including Bedouin Soundclash, Alexisonfire, the Slackers, and Barrington Levy to name a few.
Now out of school and teamed up with a heavy band considing of Kevin Beeby, Erik Petersen and Colin Morgan, Adam could finally direct his focus on his own music again with a new understanding and appreciation of music of all kinds. His style is a combination of every type of music he’s ever played in. His travels to India and Korea gave his music a subtle hint of ethnicity whereas his experience in a reggae band gives it a fun, melodic quality. It is ultimately folk rock music, fused with experiences. With Adam’s determination, drive and musical ability his new album “sanatorium road†will captivate a crowd of all ages and genres.
