Blackwater

Progressive bluegrass with no apologies

About Me

Blackwater is a progressive bluegrass band that was formed in the summer of 2004 and is based in East Central Missouri. It consists of Mark Hatfield (guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin), his wife Madonna Hatfield (guitar, bass, lead and harmony vocals) originally from eastern ky., Josh Poore (dobro, lead and harmony vocals), and Renee Caudill on bass. The band is usually Mark on guitar, Madonna on guitar and Josh on dobro. From time to time, Mark will play banjo on a few tunes. He also serves as sound recording specialist and plays some bass and occasional mandolin on the band's recorded tunes. Madonna also plays some bass when recording. Renee is the newest member and adds solid bass playing to the band. One thing that makes Blackwater stand out from the pack is the material that they will take on. Blackwater likes to play the songs they grew up with as well as songs from americana and folk formats and play them bluegrass style. At a gig, you will hear the band play Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan and maybe even Elvis. They do not necessarily focus on traditional bluegrass as there are literally thousands of bands who have not discovered more than three chords..more power to them.Blackwater has played in several cities in Missouri including Warrenton (several times), O'fallon, Labadie, House Springs, and Dutzow. They also can be found often at festivals in places like St. Charles , Eureka and Grassy.
