PLAYGROUND YEARSBorn in the early morning of August 17, 1978. Developed an early interest (age 9)in music joining sister Eva in first collective band as the world worst drummer, playing pots and pans. Starts playing the guitar at 12 and by the age of 13 he makes the switch to electric bass. Enlists as a free student at the regional music school in 1994 in order to learn how to play the upright bass, but he walks 15 months later due to “artistic differences”.By this time spending lots of hours in rehearsal rooms (as a bass player for “The Puke”,”Meltdown”, “Daulie and the Fruitcakes”, etc.) and even more hours in home-studios, working on hip-hop-beats for “Mugsquad”, “Narcoticz” and “Da Freak Syndrum” and thus learning how to compose and to produce. In 2000, being the bass player of the fusion ensemble “Brasco”, who got asked to compose and perform the music for “Agent A Accent”, directed by Sam Bogaerts. This triggered an interest to start writing for Film, TV and Theatre. When the band broke up later that year already working on his first real experiment with filmic music under the title “Luna – A Romek Gruzinki Film”, a soundtrack from a non-existing film for a non-existing director.DUKES OF CONFUSIONEncouraged by Miek Peeters (beloved wife) to bring the filmic ideas to a stage. A year later assembled “Dukes Of Confusion”, an ever-changing band with an ever-changing bandstand. The release of “Bar Moonlight – Mis En Scene”, a live registration of a concert they played in 2004 showed a broad variety in styles performed by a rare combination of artists such as Gregory Frateur (from “Dez Mona”, he later joined “Daan”), William Beckers (who used to play with “Luk Van Acker”), Bert Van Hoogendorp (who used to be the guitar player for “Crazebone” and played with Robin in the psycho-rock quartet “Dirtpack”), Eva Aerts (sister who sings for “Gouash”), Kris Van Meel (who plays drums for “Mighty Mad Moe”, is the founder of “Tentation”, and used to be a chorus singer for “Helmut Lotti”), Bas Van Staen (double bass for “Mighty Mad Moe” and “Keen Old Cottage”) and Erik Bogaerts and Koen Anthierens (both from “Brasco”).In 2004 made a short movie with Sven Van Looy featuring some instrumental Jazz tracks. The EP "En El Espejo Del Tango" featuring alongside Koen Anthierens, William Beckers and Bas Van Staen, Tom Tiest (guitar player for "Noppes"), Frank Van Eeckelen (saxophones for "Cold Sweat") and Kirsten Van Garsse (Spoken words for "Dez Mona").In 2005, the band released their second full album "Mingus Lane", bringing a more bluesy feel to the music. This time Stijn Cools joined the band on drums and Maurits Janssens played some saxophone parts.LES GARGOUILLES DE SAINT WULPHYAfter working on « En El Espejo Del Tango », developed an interest in making filmic, easy-listening jazz and he round up the musicians to achieve this. “Les Gargouilles De Saint Wulphy” consist of « Dukes of Confusion »-veterans Tom Tiest, Eva Aerts and Kris van Meel, with Robin playing electric bass and accordion, Niko De Man (from “Hijaz”) on piano and Len Van Kuijck (from “Darlene”) on saxophones and clarinet. Early 2006 they released “Sleeping With Lulu”, containing 6 tracks recorded at their first 2 concerts.MADAM RATTLEBONESBy the end of 2006 started to work on a new project called “Madam Rattlebones”, a concept where-in both the idea of “Dukes Of Confusion” (changing members) and “Les Gargouilles…”(jazzy moods) would collapse with more filmic and poetical arrangements.New Year’s Day 2007 the first album “Baglady Sings The Blues” was born.COMPOSINGAfter leaving "Brasco", soon started composing music for film, television and theatre. His first assignment was creating music for a short film to be played in the "Arenberg"-theatre in Antwerp. This was first collaboration with Sven Van Looy and they created a visual experience called "Portraits Of Jacky", it also included "Great News For Dead People" (which would later turn op on "Bar Moonlight") and "Desert Rain".In 2003 wrote the soundtrack for "Les Célibataires", a French porn movie, directed by Alain Payet. In 2004, got in contact with Hanna Budda, who was directing a stage play in Breda, Holland at that time ("Drift"). Created an avant-garde soundtrack for the play available at that time online by "Dukes Of Confusion".Now seriously encouraged this was to be something to really master, started working on a broad range of short films and student movies to build up resume and expand his experience. Worked on films in Belgium, Holland, Canada, France, United States, UK and Iceland. In 2005 released “Rubans Qui Volottent Dans Le Vent » online, an album containing all film music. With these experiences and know-how companies like Euro 1080 and Agfa Gevaert got interested enough to demand compositions for their commercials or jingles. As a songwriter got asked to write songs for bands like “Koala” or “Gouash”.PRODUCINGAs a beat-maker and working in home-studios gained the interest and experience to become a Producer, but got involved seriously in the producing business only after “Gouash” asked to produce their demo recording. Soon gained more assignments to make demo recordings for artists such as “Keen Old Cottage”, “Tattoos and Scars”, “Hijaz” and “San”.By the end of 2006 got asked to produce the full length albums of “Koala” and “Bastard Nation”.In December 2006 and January 2007 contributed as a Producer and a musician to Xavier Mariën’s “Deadman”-project, together with other Dirtpack veterans Jekke Rau and Bert Van Hoogendorp.EXTRAStill active as a bass player for bands such as “Hotch Potch” and “Tentation”. In 2006 got asked to play electric bass in a theatrical piece by Floris Schillebeeckx. “De Bacchanten” were staged for 5 days in Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp and then again for 3 days at “Theater Aan Zee” a theatrical festival in Ostend, in March 2007 they were programmed on the theatrical festival in Brno (Czech Republic).
