Heroes:

My heroes are my Grandfathers
Matt Etcheverry
(5/24/16 - 6/15/02)
and
Walt Koven
(9/8/12 - 10/8/00)
Matt served in the Army, 7th Infantry Division during WWII. While on an island in the Philippines, the Japanese had his platoon completely surrounded. He crawled through enemy lines and when he got to the position he needed to be, he called for mortar fire on the enemy and dispatched many of them with his own rifle. When the General was pinning one of his two Bronze Stars on his chest along with the Purple Heart, he asked Matt why he did it. My Grandfathers reply was, "I was just doing the job I'm supposed to do."
My Great Grandfather John Yakovenko was a riveter in the San Francisco shipyards and on July 3rd 1942, he drove 638 rivets in 8 hours for a world record in Richmond Yard Two.
My Grandfather Walt, who shortened his last name to Koven, also shortened his fathers record. He slammed 658 rivets into Yard Two's hull 1099 in only 6 hours. His score was unmarred by burnts or pickups
...all good rivets
These men are my heroes because you just don't find hard working yob's like these anymore.
