About Me

Welcome to Drea's Space!
I'm so intertribal - it's crazy! Dakota/Ojibway/Apache/Yaqui/Tsalagi . . . not to mention: English, Irish, Dutch, French, and Mexican too!

I love my mixed-heritage and my family . . . they are the strongest influences that have made me who I am!

I was born (and raised for a good chunk of my life) in Portland, OR - I also lived for several years in: Wichita, KS; Bellingham, WA [Lummi Rez]; and Pullman, WA.
I spend a lot of time with family and friends, in and around: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.
I love to POWWOW & snag. (Ayes!) I was a fancy-shawl dancer while I was growing up; it's been over a decade since I stopped dancing, so I will be rejoining the powwow circle as a *Tradish* Dancer sometime in the next year.

I have a gang of siblings . . . I love them all to pieces. They're so much more humorous now that we are getting older - I love spending time with my niece, nephew, friends & family.
Generally, I work with Native Youth Programs - it's been a passion of mine to help Native Youth in whatever location I happen to be in.
Last year I worked for a Native Montessori class as the Education Assistant and Cultural Ed instructor - it was so amazing! I absolutely loved all my little students - they were great!
Right now, I'm managing a cafe and teaching ("Early Childhood - Intro to Music") for Ethos Music Center in Portland, OR.
Ethos Music Center is a non-profit music school that provides music education to underserved communities throughout Oregon. It's a kick-@$$ place you gotta check it out. www.ethos.org
By now, I've given WAAAAY more info than anyone really needs to know at first glance - so, if you want to know more, you gotta send me a message. ~Laterz!~

This is one of my favorite pictures. It's a painting by William R. Davis . . . I don't know who he is, but I LOVE THIS PAINTING!

for visiting my space!

How to make a "ButterflyDrea"
Shaken, stirred, blended and whipped! *Ayes!*)

Ingredients:
1 part bold confidence
2 parts determination
1 part curiosity
2 parts creativity
3 parts genuine kindness
1 pinch of humility
1 huge scoop of goofy humor
Method:
Shake, stir, blend and whip it all together - serve in a blue-glass tumbler with a sugared rim. Add spontanaeity, lovability, Whipped Cream and Maraschino Cherries to taste!
WARNING!
Do Not Add Extra humps or lumps - plenty of T&A have already been organically added to this mix!
Do not overindulge . . . this is an addictive mix!

Drea's Theme Song is:
Born to Be Wild
by Steppenwolf

"I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under"
..'font-size: 16pt;' A total independent spirit,
Drea can't be held down or fenced in.
She craves the feeling of wind on her face
...and total freedom.
No "substances" necessary:
her natural high comes from
LOVING & LIVING LIFE!
Drea believes in the saying
"Life is a Journey - NOT a Destination."
There may be stops, bumps, detours
and road-blocks along the way
. . . but she's made up her mind
to FULLY enjoy the ride!
I love Rugby!
Drea's Power Color Is Blue
Relationships and feelngs are the most important things to Drea.
She is empathetic and accepting - and good at avoiding conflict.
If someone close to Drea is in pain, it makes her hurt as well.
Drea tries to heal the ones she loves with her kind and open heart.
The Eastern Tailed Blue Butterfly

As small as a quarter/coin - this butterfly is significant to me because it is found in all the regions where my ancestry/relatives are from . . . as well as the regions where I grew up. It's my butterfly - I love it!

My Interests

So . . . What are my interests? Oh golly-geez, where do I begin? Powwows, Teaching, Beadwork, watching Rugby, listening to all sorts of music . . . Socializing with friends in all sorts of locations/settings/occasions, relaxing - SLEEPING, yes, SLEEPING!

I am a Black Coffee
At my best, I am: low maintenance, friendly, and adaptable

At my worst, I am: cheap and angsty

I drink coffee when I can get my hands on it

My caffeine addiction level is: high!
What Kind of Coffee Are You?

I'd like to meet:

Romantically, it wouldn't matter who I meet, because I'm FICKLE - whilst this may conflict with other info you'll read on my profile, most recently, I've decided I'm unable to put a description on what I'm lookin' for in a partner - cuz it's just one of those things where you-know-when-you-know and you-don't-if-you-don't. The important ingredients, however, are: dedication to family/heritage (cuz where we come from is a strong indicator of where we are goin . . . or at least how/when/why we're gonna get there); strong work ethics and a steady job (cuz life ain't free - food, shelter, and education always have a cost!); humor and humility (cuz they help every situation in one way or another). That's all for now, folks. Ya'll know I'm fickle.

Socially?
Hands down, I want to meet QUEEN LATIFAH! . . . and Robin Williams, Jamie Lee Curtis, HOLLY HUNTER, Robert DeNiro, The gals from Dixie Chicks, Brad Paisley, Danny DeVito, Whoopi Goldberg, Adam Beach, Selma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Jimmy Smits, Graham Green, Eric Schwieg, John Marsden, Shaun Tan, Paul Goble, Tina Turner, Ellen D, Rosie O, Oprah, JOE NICHOLS . . . and so many many more!
Romantically? I'm too busy to search for romance . . .
Some days are crazy hair days . . . that pretty much sums it up.

Music:

[Pretty much] EVERY KIND OF MUSIC! I usually just listen to whatever music suits my mood. Rock, New-core/Alternative, Blues, Pop, Jazz, Country, Rap, R&B, HipHop, Faikava, Spanish/Latin, Ranchero, Tejano, WORLD, etc. I love music from the 80's and 90's . . . throw some on, I know all the words. LOL!
Seriously, there are so many artists/genres I truly appreciate . . . just ask me sometime.

Movies:

Comedies and Scary/Horror Flicks are my favorites! I love to jump and scream when the movie is freaky! But I also like kids movies because most of them are really funny and I can watch them with my niece, my nephew, my younger cousins and/or the class/students I teach. Then again, I also enjoy old-timey movies, action, drama and documentaries . . . so it really depends on the mood I'm in.

Television:

Not much lately. Catching up on DVD's of The Sopranos. . . and catching up on CSI shows.

Books:

The Rabbits - by John Marsden, illus. Shaun Tan; Where the Wild Things Are - by Maurice Sendak; and so very many many more children's books . . . during my studies in the College of Education with Washington State University, I really took an interest in Children's Literature - now it's one of my passions!!!!!!

Heroes:

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.
- Albert Einstein

You must be the change you want to see in the world.
- Mahatma Ghandi

My heroes are: my family, my elders . . . my students.
