About Me

Dawn has a gift of connecting with people and making things happen. That gift took her to Sacramento where she met David Agent, bass player, songwriter, producer and a member of the popular R&B band, Club Nouveau. In 1990, she was introduced to the music industry when she began handling his music publishing affairs with BMI. She has several years of experience in the entertainment industry as a Public Relations and Marketing Executive. She was a Production Coordinator for “With My Eyes Closed” a song on the Bee Gees album, Still Waters. During her career she has worked with other music icons such as Raphael Saadiq and James Brown, just to name a few. She was the Publicist for the long-running Vonny Hilton-Sweeney & Friends Pre-Grammy Celebration from 1999-2001. She has also worked with the phenomenal producer Mark “Killaloop” Lewis, CEO of London-based Plutonium Rock Entertainment and his artist, Mr. Alexander. Her knack for publicizing and working well with people helped to sell out 4 shows for the legendary Jazz Organist, the late Jimmy Smith at On Broadway Jazz in Sacramento in 1995. After the success of that show, she took the official steps to launch Agent & Associates, now Dawn Agent Public Relations, LLC. In 1996 she was the Marketing Chair and Publicist for the memorable California 1000 Man March. 50, 000 people gathered at the State Capitol and she spoke to students at Sacramento City College about this meaningful event. Her work, success and dedication to this event was praised and acknowledged by the California Legislative Black Caucus, Comcast and the media. In 1998 she began giving seminars on the business of music to students at Sacramento Job Corp. Participants in Agent’s seminars not only learned what was needed to prepare a demo package, but also received valuable information regarding mechanical licensing, royalties, copyright, and other information to help ensure a long-term career in entertainment. She focuses primarily on other career opportunities other than being a recording artist. “I want people to know that there are other careers in the business that have longevity, such as publicists, lawyers, accountants and video directors. People need to realize that education is the key to security and success, even in the music industry,” states Dawn. She was involved with the remarkable book, Chicken Soup for the African American Woman’s Soul, which was released in August 2006 and co-authored by the dynamic writer, Lisa Nichols. The Release Reception for the national book tour was in Los Angeles August 25th- 27th 2006 at the infamous Staples Center. The tour was in Sacramento, California September 25, 2006 at the Guild Theater with a presentation of “Ladies Can We Talk” hosted by Ms. Nichols. A book signing followed at the Underground Bookstore and she was the Publicist for both events. The tour came to Phoenix, Arizona in December 2006 and she was a City Host , while also lending her expertise in publicity and marketing to reach out to the grass root community, which added more spice to the soup. In 2007, she was the first African-American woman to be nominated to be on the Board of Directors for Jazz In AZ, a 30-year non-profit organization. In 2006, she worked with mega-star, 16 year-old singer and song-writer, Brandon Kane (BK) and his debut solo album will be released in May 2008. She is currently the Publicist for an upcoming project with songwriter, producer, Michael Dailey and featured artists and some of the most influential voices of America, such as Dr. Cornel West, Sonia Sanchez, Rah Digga, and more. Her expertise in the business is undeniable, but the heartfelt passion she feels for community involvement embraces her spirit daily. It is her goal to continue educating aspiring young artists, and other individuals whose interest is working in the entertainment industry.Get your layout at MyCustomProfile.com
