Catch Mart & Craig doing the Campfire... LIVE!

About Me

Bios are torture. I've been writing music for a dog's age now, and performing as part of various bands in the New York City area, most notably as singer/guitarist for Serious Pilgrim, with whom I recorded and toured for a few years, opening for great folks like Aimee Mann, Gov't Mule, Live, Hootie & the Blowfish, Joan Jett, and God knows who else. - - - - - Currently, you can catch me playing my compositions with the best band I've ever been in: Craig Meyer on drums, Brian Killeen or Chris Kuffner on bass, and Eric Katerle on guitar; performing at venues in Greenwich Village and on the Lower East Side. I recently received the honor of an invitation to appear as part of the New York Songwriters' Circle, which was a gas; looking forward to doing it again soon. While that's going on, I'm working on the follow-up to my latest CD, Pride of the Valley (tentatively titled Sea of Clouds, and I hope to have it out sometime in 2008). - - - - - I'm also playing guitar now with Kailin Garrity, with Craig playing drums... Kailin is about to start work on a CD with Chris Kuffner producing, can't wait to put some guitars and backing vocals on that! Check out Kailin's stuff at myspace.com/kailingarrity - - - - - you can also catch me appearing with my good friend Craig Meyer as an acoustic duo several nights a week throughout New York City and other far-flung locations, performing my songs along with a boatload of vintage r&b, soul, country, and other left-of-center numbers... we call it the "___ Night Campfire" (depending on what night it is)... it's a lot of fun, and I hope you'll join us. ----- You can hear a couple of songs from my current cd, Pride of the Valley, right here at this page. You can order it here at my myspace page, or from my main site, www.martinrivas.net, or from the iTunes Music Store (search "martin rivas")...

Rest in peace, Mr. Holmes

I am so deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a legend. Moe Holmes had the most soothing, soulful voice, and such an ease of delivery. It was a joy to get to hear him play at Terra Blues on Sunday...
