Ruben Cashie was born October 6th, 1983. His younger brother Dermot Cashie was born January 1st 1986, both in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. They were sent to piano lessons at an early age but did not spend very long there. In fact they disliked it and never made any significant headway in that regard. However Ruben sang in his school choir and performed in a couple of community concerts before he was age 10. In 2000 Ruben moved to the Bahamas to meet his mother. He was joined by Dermot two years after and three years later, went to Acadia University in Canada where he danced and sang at campus concerts and was awarded entertainer of the year within the CARICOM club in 2006. It was then that he again became seriously involved in making music with his brother who still lived in the Bahamas and was creating beats for locals. Undoubtedly music is Dermot..s number one passion. As a kid he would take wooden sticks and beat drum patterns on his mother..s kitchen table top while his brother and friends each sang their rhymes. He would collect music on various media as a hobby. D.Red (as he is commonly called) would gather basically all genres of music from hip hop, to R&B to reggae and his indigenous soca. In secondary school he used to hang around a lot of local DJs, in wait of an opportunity to show off his skills. Although he would take his turn on a mixer, he was much more interested in making his own music. He then decided to step into the studio with his long time friends to record dub plates and mixtapes. Dermot created beats with a dancehall flavor which did not find favor with Ruben who loves R&B and is a huge fan of Maxwell and DruHill. However, despite those differences a compromise was struck resulting in their own unique yet commercial sound. Several tracks later the boys hooked up together again in Trinidad and formed CashieCo. With roughly two years together as a duo, they have a body of work which they have single handedly composed, produced and performed. They have also had airplay of their songs on the local radio stations.
