Music:

My taste in music has certainly evolved over the years but where did it all begin? I was raised on good ol' Soul. As a little girl, Saturday morning cartoons took an easy 2nd place to Sooooooooul Train with Don Cornelius!!!

Gladys Night and the Pips, Midnight Train to Georgia is my all time favorite song.
I loved the 70's and everything about the disco dance era. Obviously, I wasn't old enough to boogie my way into a disco and so while those were the 'dating years' for my Groovy Mom and Dad, I learned how to do "The Bump" to the Commodores, Brick House very well for a 7 year old.
My Mother loves to sing and some of my best childhood memories would be spending the weekends with her record collection spread across the living room floor and my sisters and I singing along with Mom, recording us on her reel to reel recorder. Remember those?
We sang everything in the 70's and well into the 80's ... Larry Graham, Linda Rondstandt, Debbie Boone, Bonnie Pointer, Anne Murray, Rita Coolidge, Diana Ross, Donna Summers, Boz Scaggs, Journey, Survivor, The Eagles, and Air Supply just to name a few favorites. I'm a Freddy Fender fan forever, thanks to Daddy. :)
My Mothers influence in music certainly defined mine but in the mid 80's I grew more independent while in Jr. High. My friends and I crazed over Duran Duran, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Culture Club, Wham, Howard Jones, Adam Ant, The Mary Jane Girls, Janet Jackson, New Edition, Prince, Sheila E, Debarge and of course Michael Jackson.
It was the Break Dancin' Dayz so anything Electric Boogaloo / Hip-Hop/ Electro Fusion was loved; Herbie Hancock (if you don't know about Herbie, than you DONT KNOW!) Sugar Hill Gang, Chaka Khan, Grand Master Flash, The Real Roxanne, Run DMC, and Egyptian Lover!!
My high school years had me listenin' to Whitney Houston, more New Edition, Gloria Estefan, Soul II Soul, MC Rob Base & DJ Ez Rock (Todays Rap music can't touch THAT!) and I'll even embarrisingly admit to Milli Vanilli, Debbie Gibson and Tiffany (but they were pop no doubt!!)
I had 3 years of high school choir and theatre production at which time my love for show tunes and 50's music flourished and I passionatly learned songs from the sock hop era!!
We'll keep the 90's short and simple ... Those were my Dayz!!
My college years. I danced and performed. I danced all the time, and I couldn't stop dancing!! I was a dancer/cheerleader in college so I danced on the football fields and along the sidelines, I danced on the basketball courts, I danced in the night clubs and at house parties, I danced on the beach, near the bonfire, I danced. Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson, need I say more?
Nowadays, my taste in music is more diverse. My favorite genre, song and artist change as swiftly as my mood. I LOVE music, it lifts me, moves me, inspires and motivates me. At any given moment I can be caught listening to: Luther. He will always be my number 1 and the rest in no particular order; Brian Mcknight, Babyface, Eric Benet, Lenny Kravitz, R. Kelly, Joe, Gerald Levert, John Legend, Ben Harper, James Blunt, Jamie Foxx, John Mayer, Boney James, Janet Jackson, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Beyonce, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Norah Jones, Nelly Furtado, Joss Stone, Erykah Badu, Macy Gray, India Arie, Lauren Hill, Mary J Blige, Sade, Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, Tamia, Faith Evans, Dana Glover, Natasha Bedingfield, KT Tunstall, Amy Winehouse, Colbie Caillat, Corinne Bailey Rae, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Andre Crouch and the Disciples, Goapele, The Fray, ... and I like me some Indie; Esthero, A.M. Sixty, Amos Lee, Dido and PSAPP. I can even have a country heart; Rascal Flatts, Dixie Chicks, Shania, The Wreckers, Martina, Reba, Jewel and Lee Ann Womack.
Can't forget my island music; Dennis Ah Yek, Jamoa Jam, Pacific Soul, Fiji, Afatia, Ten Feet, Island Gospel - Toa, Kapena and The Katinas and I LOVE the traditional Samoan music sung by my cousin, Samoan Congressman Eni Faleomavaega!!

Books:

The only book written over a period of 1500 years, by over 40 different authors who lived on three different continents, and who spoke three different languages and wrote in those languages and yet it reads as one story - The Holy Bible. It is a book that cannot be understood by simply reading from cover to cover. It requires a deeper understanding of the vital role scripture has in our lives and how we are to interact with it. Get into the word of God and let the word of God get into you.
