The Saudi Playboys are Chegoku, Dragonpunch and Roman NewYork, three
brothers who are spinning new angles on old songs, new remixes and original material with the help of todays indie rising stars.
The first release on Apartment's FLEET STREET RECORDS
is a cover of The Talking Heads "Psycho Killer" which
features vocals from Jason Bavanandan of BATTLE
(www.thisisbattle.com) and Liz Holdforth of THE FAR
CRIES (www.myspace.com/thefarcries) as well as Roman
NewYork's trademark falsetto.
While Chegoku was roaming the globe from Kuala Lumpur
to Amsterdam creating cutting edge audiovisuals and
releasing all kinds of stuff on his own No-Mad
Productions (www.no-mad.com), the elusive Roman
NewYork was squatting between Berlin and London...
making his living as a sculptor and moonlighting the
Search Generation scene of East London. Dragonpunch on the other hand was busy making cutting edge shorts and promos for up and coming bands... the life he led took him down dark alleys and eventually Chegoku forced him into rehab, where he still is a part time patient.
Che' and Roman met at a Jarvis Cocker party, and
quickly recognised that they both needed a project
that counterbalanced their pompous and indulgent
art... a place where they could free themselves of any
shackles... where the quest for originality and
progress was out, and the punk ethic of hard and fast
was in. The addition of Dragonpunch created the holy triad of 3 best friends now setting out to create something special.
The Saudi's have strong political views about todays
world and under every sugar coated release lies the
stronger message... one that is directly inspired by
todays current events: war, control through fear,
media manipulation, lack of education, conspiracy
theories... and through reworked and carefully chosen
punk and post punk songs, are trying to weave a
tapestry of messages that hopefully will reverberate
through this generation and through time.
