My harsh reality: The looks on peoples faces aren't always that of oppression. The faces you see are often the face of frustration. Frustration from having cameras and video cameras constantly belittling their existence with the promise of change. They're tired of it, but we've promised them change. They will wait. They will wait their entire lives for that Westerner to return and fulfill their promise. I call this dependent development. So what exactly is it that we are waiting for?
Now
I'm in Africa, Praise God! I was in Uganda from June-September doing volunteer work for variours organizations and orphanages. I am now living it up in Nairobi, Kenya doing IT consulting for World Concern.
The real interesting stuff is everything that got me where I am today. A whole lot of adventure, mixed with the greatest of friends, a crazy family life, college, singing, running, purpose, and an inability to take it easy - Just to keep it simple. Which I am hardly.
And Then
I really believe IT can play a huge role in development as well as having a huge responsibility in international affairs. My dream is to dedicate my life to addressing both of these roles.
I hope to initiate an International IT Consulting organization to act as a medium for IT professionals to do service work for organizations nationally and internationally. It has become apparent that many organizations are becoming less efficient due to the inability to address IT complications and implement long-term solutions. Even more obvious is the lack of funds to have someone experienced address these problems. I know there are people waiting for an opportunity to serve, to help, and to be a part of an international collaberative effort to see a better world. IT has a role in this effort.
One day I'd like to see myself in a government role addressing international IT policies. The internet is an open field for human trafficing, slavery, hacking, and terrorism. What's worst is the international communities effort in working together to bring justice to these situations. I hope I can play a huge role in seeing the international community work together in a very complex situation.
