Profile Edited by MPS MySpace Editor 2.0I know what you're thinking. Another pro-pot rap group.
But we're different. We're thinkers and activists with some tasty grooves too. We're The Herbillest - a Philly rap crew that's nationally known for its old school hip-hop jams and pro-ganja understandings.
So we met in the early 2000s - digging on Kool G. Rap and A Tribe Called Quest. Then this guy O'Brick hooked us up with this Northeast Philly cut legend, DJ Slick, and this radical producer in Philly - known as Supe - to help us in exploring our sound. After us he took on Jedi Mind Tricks and gave Philly hip-hop heads a new understandings of area rap.
We joined the city's pro-pot movement in 2003 - taking part in a December rally in front of the Liberty Bell spearheaded by our buddy, activist Pat Duff, and the New Jersey Weedman, Ed Forchion. We also bought time on public radio station 1540 AM - hosting the "Open Mind Show" and rocking MF Doom cuts with positive speech in the midst of the band's fall 2003 release "Propagation."
"Propagation" started getting some street buzz around the marijauna world and in Northeast Philly by then when we were featured in Canibus Culture magazine as a true hip-hop experence for the weed heads of the world.
We also got hooked up with the Marijuana Music Awards in Australia and after "Pass It Along" was nominated for best song in 2004, the gang was invited to take in the Mardigrass Festival in the small Aussie town of Nimbin.
We were legends there by the time we arrived in April 2005 - our new joint "Vegetation" was out and picking up steam.
We hit Nimbin by storm, playing show after show, and winning the hearts of the Aussie women and the Best Live Performance catagory at the 2005 Marijuana Music Award.
A short hiatis brings us to 2006, where the guys are working on new material and staying active in the pro-pot movement.
You can grab tracks from our web site, on this site, and "Vegetation" - which feastures Akrobatik from the Perceptionist crew and DJ Kwestion from Jedi Mind Tricks - is available for purchase on iTunes.
Expect big things in the 2007, because The Herbillest crew is back on
