biography.
Music has been the main source of my passion as well as the target of most of my frustration. I can recall multiple times in my life when music was something I wanted to give up on. In the end, I find it ironic that I've chosen to dedicate my life to this art form by becoming a professional musician. I got involved with music like any one else, school band. Started the clarinet at the age of ten and oboe two years later. I was involved in youth orchestra, went through the middle school / high school "punk, emo, indie" stage and came out of high school with the decision to pursue "jazz" studies. I've been blessed with the opportunity to spend my time between New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area. I've had the opportunity to study with some of the greatest musicians alive. Without these mentors, I wouldnt be half the musician I am today. I definitely consider myself to be deeply rooted in the classical tradition as well as the jazz tradition, yet I dont consider myself strickly a "classical or jazz" musician. I write, perform, breath and eat up music that I am passionate about. I am a strong believer that musicians today should be playing the music of today while paying dues to what came before them. I am also a strong believer that musicians should discover and develope their own voice in whatever type of music they choose to create. That being said, I am always excited to meet, create and play with people who are as passionate about their art as I am.
now for the stuffy "official" biography.
