Surfcake

Surfcake has been wandering long in dark caves in order to create a firm base on which it can flourish. Surfcake found a way of mixing styles, moulding them and forming them innovatively. The cooperation between three explosive musicians gave birth to the sweetness that has a bitter afterbite, like a strong vodka after a sugar cube: tantalizing, mesmerizing and energetic. With the aid of four other professionals they formed a power pop band. Their style is to be described as groove jazz with a strong flavour of pop, dance and latin.Jurek Cruysberg and Mike Roelofs are responsible for the musical side. Léon Bartels is taking care of the technical side. After having composed, arranged and pimped the songs, they searched for musicians that could give their compositions a lift in both a musical and techical way. They found Sjoerd Rutten, Arjan Kerren, Marel Joosten, Ron van Stratum and Ryan Carniaux, all designated and experienced musicians. Within the armour of the arrangements there is enough room for humor and improvisation. Additional scratch work is done by Amsterdam based DJ Bobafatt.The music is about just enough jazz to keep it thrilling, enough pop to keep it accesible, enough spontanious to invite for dancing. It's meant for a wide range of people, but the core of the music is so inventive that also the spoiled listener will be pampered.
