About Me
Derek Hattewin has been behind the decks since 1998. He got his start in DJing while attending Fredonia University, by teaming up with fellow spinster Joel Johnson. The duo of Hattewin and Johnson began spinning a radio show on WCVF 89.5 FM, called "The Retro Riot", playing - you guessed it, all the great retro from the decade of "Who's the Boss", jelly bracelets, and the almighty white powder - the '80's. The on-air show started garnering a huge following and quickly progressed into a club night at Muldoons (Free aqua-net hairspray at the door).From that point on, Hattewin became obsessed with perfecting his art as a DJ. He had a great deal of experience on stage already, fronting the Punk Rock outfit, Slush Fund through the mid 90's. Hattewin also sang for The Hero Factor, The Mind Automatic, and even an college, drink-til-you-drop AC/DC tribute band called Big Balls.With all his years of music intact, Hattewin has held residencies in Toronto, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Rochester at various clubs: ARIA, Sphere, 427, The Bug Jar........and on and on.Derek Hattewin's knowledge of music spans Classic Funk/Soul, Classic/Modern Rock, Jazz, Blues, and Classical. He successfully takes all of these influences into an eclectic range of styles including: Deep/Soulful House, Progressive/Electro House, Breaks, Downtempo and Lounge Grooves, Alternative, Punk, Indie, Retro, and Cult Classics. Derek Hattewin is currently spinning at his monthly residency, "Anything Goes" with Joel Johnson at the Bug Jar in Rochester, NY.You can also catch Hattewin at his new residency as part of Funhouse Fridays at Casbah Lounge in Hamilton, ON.
