About Me

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions.I think I said that the other day after one too many whiskey and cokes. I'm like that caracter on Heroes called Isaac, who paints the future but only when he's high on heroin. That would be interesting...Actually, that's a quote by Albert Einstein.

My Interests

I don't know if my interests go much beyond sports at this time. (I just proved why I'm so single). I live for Red Sox baseball, Notre Dame football, and Duke basketball. And by the way, I'm not a bandwagon fan; there are stories behind my loyalties to each team.I'm interested in enjoying my young adult years and not growing up too fast. I'm interested in getting my MBA and eventually running a pro sports team. I'm interested finding my wife and planning a family. I'm interested in helping my parents retire.I have an interest in doing a lot of cliche things before I grow old and fat, such as sky diving, climbing some mountains, going to a bunch of big-time sporting events, and traveling to far away tourist destinations. I used to have a long list...

I'd like to meet:

Should I be witty or serious? I'd really like to meet Erin Andrews and Rachel Nichols. They aren't household names unless you watch ESPN.But seriously, there are a lot of dead people I'd enjoy chatting up. Maybe one day...Generally, the people we'd like to meet have done something to deserve our praise or thanks or consideration. Other than the A-list celebrities, we desire to experience what these people have done in their lives, thus the reason we want to meet them. It'd be much easier and cooler to just travel through time and experience life with them.It would save me from thinking of a list of people I'd like to meet...

Music:

I listen to just about everything but country and hip-hop/rap. I guess that doesn't leave much on the table. I will forever jam to punk rock and alt rock of any decade. I do classic rock and some newer hard rock. And when my brain is about to explode from stress, I turn on classical/opera/Broadway. Yes, it's true...

Movies:

I'm a big fan of the comedies, namely anything Monty Python, anything Mel Brooks, anything by Adam McKay with Will Ferrell, The Three Amigos, Animal House, Dazed and Confused, Val Wilder, Fast Times at Ridgemont High...I prefer intelligent, sophisticaed dramas, such as Mob movies, anything with Denzel Washington, anything with Tim Robbins, anything with Tom Hanks, almost anything with Harrison Ford, anything by Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese or Barry Levinson or Sam Mendes or Anthony Minghella...I'm definitely into the indie flicks, and I don't mean just Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez. The Boondock Saints rocks and so does Way of the Gun. There are too many to name and others that some would call mainstream because they were big-budget films, but they play much better in the indie category...

Television:

ESPN should be its own category. Also, I have DVR down to a science. I record everything during the week and then watch it all on Saturday or Sunday between games. The list is (in no particular order): Amazing Race, Studio 60, Lost, Prison Break, Six Degrees, The Nine, Friday Night Lights, The Office, Grey's Anatomy...I'm also very high-brow in that I watch Histroy, Discovery, BBC America, etc.

Books:

I try to constantly educate myself, so I grab whatever seems interesting at the moment. I'm more loyal to the hot topics of the day than any particular author.

Heroes:

The true blue collar workers who are seemingly always around us but never actually present. We glance over them like some kind of routine, ignoring and never appreciating their work. I'm sure most of them, like all of us, had or still have a dream for their lives. When and where is it decided which of us has the opportunity to live that dream? Also, the Founding Fathers, Abraham Lincoln, the leaders of the Civil Rights movement...Notice a pattern?
