Rodney Fernandez Rivers, Daly City native / Vallejo raised, better known to the people as Rodney-O or Rod Roc, started as a bedroom DJ in the summer of 94'. In 95', inspired by local Bay Area DJ crews like Second To None, Just 2 Hype, 3 Style Attractions, etc.....Rod Roc, with the company of a few close friends, jumped into the mobile DJ scene and created the crew known as Mixology Entertainment, running alongside fellow Vallejo DJ crews like New Creations, Reckless DJs, and Mix Master Renegades until 98' or so. After a few years of rockin' house parties/cotillions/etc... Rod Roc and fellow Mixology crew member Jay Z slowly made a smooth transition into one of Daly City's well known mobile DJ crews; Second To None Productions. After paying dues and soaking up knowledge from these DJ veterans, Rod Roc and Jay Z began rockin' SF clubs such as KaBoom and Sound Factory. He's also had oppertunity to share the spotlight on stage by opening alongside cats like the Fingerbangerz, DJ Rhettmatic, Moonrocks, Saul Williams, Black Eyed Peas, and Jurassic 5. That quickly inspired Rod Roc to step it up a bit so he entered a local Guitar Center DJ battle in 99', which definitely opened up a whole new world for him. That then lead him to start making his own music. So, after STN died out around 2000, Rod Roc took a break from the mobile scene for a few years to focus on scratching and beat making. In 2003, he created Souled Out Radio, a live mix show that was broadcasted worldwide every week over the internet. He then released his first official mixtape in 2004 titled, "He's The DJ (Old School Classics and B-sides)". Soon after, a new group of DJs evolved into a collective known as the Souled Out Crew. Finally, in 2007 Rod Roc met up with producer Joe Dukes and DJ Delrokz to form the Bay Area's very own independent music label; Souled Out Underground (www.souledoutunderground.com), consisting of some of the freshest local artists/musicians around the Bay Area. And as of 2008, Rod Roc is now 1/4 of the independent hip-hop crew; Group Therapy (along side: LMNtal, Audio, and Random). So, DON'T SLEEP!!! Support good music and keep that mind wide open.
