SF Weekly- Best Pop Artist

About Me

The Brink has a new wave indie rock sound with a new album “Ripe” making the rounds.
Songs like “Ripe” single “We’ve Got a New One” shows off the colorful aural vistas that fire up from The Brink. The song mixes grit and polish, marrying the gleam and shine of good old new wave vibrations with contemporary rock’s zest and flair.
The Brink’s Butch Berry first wrote the tunes back in 2005, later discovering Drew Yurkov and another bass player on www.craigslist.com. Six months later, the set was ready – but the bass player was gone. Money for studio time also posed a challenge – but while it seemed these musicians were on the brink of seeing their dream stumble, they persevered and succeeded.
“We didn’t have much money to record in a studio, so we recorded the album ourselves by buying the equipment,” explains one member of The Brink. “We were fine with being a duo on recorded tracks, if need be.”
But soon enough, another bass player was found who had done some shows as part of a major label showcase. But he, too, parted ways with The Brink, returning them to duo status. Eventually, however, a lineup solidified. The Brink is now Butch on vocals and guitar, Drew on drums and Scott Smit on bass.
The Brink has nabbed a number of honors, including best male vocals, best keyboards, best programming, best melody, best mood, most original, feel good track, rocking track, grooviest rhythm, potential soundtrack and track of the day – all at garageband.com in the indie rock category.
