The Speakeasies

The Bootleggers of Fine Music Present.....

About Me

Over the past three years The Speakeasies have been as well a kept secret as their underground namesakes. But, much like the liquor lockers of the nineteen thirties, they are far from unknown. With their new record 'better side of not so good' the Guelph based rock quartet has made the transition from limelight to spotlight without so much as missing a beat. With their relentless gigging and touring, the band has been able to impress its ever growing fan base with its unique, raw, melodic power, something they've shared with audiences across this great country as well as with many south of the border. It is then no wonder that they've captured numerous voters choice awards including Echo Weekly's "band most likely to make it " and 105.3 KoolFM's "KW's Koolest Band", as well as Craig Norris' "song of the day" on CBC radio 3 with their radio single 'Come On'. If you haven't had the pleasure yet, don't fret; there's little chance of these warriors throwing in the towel. Because if prohibition taught us anything, it's that wherever there is a demand, there will always be those to deliver. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Highlights:*Deeply associated with the Hillside Festival of Guelph (http://www.hillsidefestival.ca/), having played twice and helped out sound checking it's inaugural Hillside Inside festival this past February.*2005 EP recorded at Gas Station Studios on Toronto Island with Dale Morningstar (Dinner is Ruined/ Gord Downie's backing band), mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel mastering.*2006 EP recorded by ourselves*Spring 2007 Western Rocky Mountain tour Playing Calgary, Banff, Canmore and Fernie.*2007 voted Best Local Band, Best Website and Local Band Most Likely to Make it Big by Echo Magazine (www.echoweekly.com)*2007 recorded full length album 'better side of not so good' at Catherine North Studios in Hamilton with Dan Achen (CNS/ Junkhouse) and Ian Smith (The Miniatures/ Spirits/ EMI)*September 5th 2007 voted Track of the Day on CBC radio 3, 'Come on' from 2005 Demo*Winter 2008 East Coast tour playing Halifax, Antigonish, Saint John, Moncton, Fredricton and Montreal.*March 7 2008 played the Go!
