Hiroller

Many rappers often rhyme about “keeping it real,” but Brooklyn bred rapper Hiroller, a.k.a Steven Francis, has carved his way into the hip-hop arena by being one of the few rappers who actually do. Born and raised in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, Hiroller was influenced by the hip-hop of the early 90’s and credits artists such as Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie and The Wu-Tang Clan as his influences. His natural talent and business acumen led him to co-found the independent label Pocket Change Entertainment in 2002. Under the Pocket Change label he has recorded two mix tapes. The first, Change Tha Game back (2006) was a tribute to his love of old-school hip-hop with most of his rhymes being done over classic beats such as ‘93 Til Infinity by Souls of Mischief and Check Da Rhyme by A Tribe Called Quest. The following mix tape, Second To None, coupled Hiroller’s slick rhymes with top-notch production to solidify Hiroller as one of the most skilled contemporary lyricists out of New York. What sets Hiroller apart is his ability to relate to the common man. His rhymes aren’t filled with exaggerations about being a hardened killer, drug dealer, or ladies man. Instead his lyrics tell the story of everyday life influenced by the current political climate, the streets of New York and even the daily grind of a young black man working nine to five. Hiroller continues to prove that Change Tha Game back was not just the title of his mix tape but also his mantra for his approach to the industry.
