This month we switch gears and head to Rochester, NY, home to June 2007's Artist Of The Month, Carmireli. Her unique fusion of Rock/Pop/Latin leaves a curious ear to sense that a star is on the rise. With influences such as Kelly Clarkson, 30 Seconds To Mars, Shakira and many others, Carmireli carves out her own niche to create a style all her own. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico the youngest of 11 children, she knew early on in life that she wanted to be an artist. Her parents had come up with her name by cleverly taking the first letters of family members. When Carmireli was 8 years old, being a big fan of The Spice Girls, she was inspired to become a singer and upon learning that her mother had been a Singer/Model/Actress when she was younger. Her family moved from Puerto Rico to Queens, New York in hopes of a better life which did not come easy. Living 12 years in a windowless basement, she learned early on what hardship was all about. Her parents often struggled to put food on the table in a rough and tumble neighborhood where shootings were part of everyday life, but with the strong bond the family posessed, they would overcome the odds that sometimes seemed impossible. Carmireli's older brother who lived in Rochester had persuaded the family to move there in hopes that the family could build a better life. they evnetually headed to Rochester. When Carmireli was 13 she decided to follow her mother's dream and enrolled in Theatre/Dance and Voice classes. One day would change her life, when a voice teacher had made a comment to her saying "You're just one of a thousand, get your head out of the clouds. This was the point where as Carmireli's father puts it "She was born". Armed with both talent and a persitance that is hard to come by, things were about to change. She began writing and recording her debut self titled CD. Released just this year, it didn't take long to realize that this was not your typical debut release from a young artist as you might expect it to be. What it had was the makings of a budding star in the making. Then there are the fans, as Carmireli mentions are the friendliest, funny and most loyal people you will ever meet and considers herself lucky to have them by her side. As for the near future, Carmireli will head to Los Angeles to begin rehearsing for an upcoming tour with her band and hopes to have dates set up in the coming months. For this artist, the future holds much promise and a talent that is truly....."One in a million". Carmireli has this month's top spot on my friends list, for more information please stop by her page.

Factoid: British Electropop band formed in Reading, England in 1995. They are best known for their first album Becoming X (released in 1996) and particularly the singles "6 Underground", "Spin Spin Sugar" and "Tesko Suicide" from that album. They took their name from an article the Beastie Boys published in their Grand Royale magazine about a man they hired to track down classic sneakers.
