Pave your own road...the scenery is much nicer

About Me

So, here's little Kristen at 9 years old trying to figure out what instrument to play. My dad, a musician and music teacher, said that lots of people play the violin and that makes it difficult to get jobs down the road. My brother was playing cello, and the bass was too darn big to lug around. I'd have to wait another year to play a brass or woodwind instrument and I didn't want to wait. So, I started on the viola...this may be where my decisions to go against than the norm started.
After 27 years of playing classical music only, I wanted a new challenge, and figured if Jason Carter could do it, so could I. So, I've been playing bluegrass and ad lib fiddle since 2004, and really enjoy the creativity of playing your own notes, rather that just expression or interpretation of the notes on the page in front of you. I still love to play in string ensembles for weddings and parties, I teach privately, sit in with other bands and do studio sessions with songwriters whenever possible. I'll take on any challenge that sounds fun, and would never shy away because it's something new.
