Dirigible Ego

Impure pop for now people. Dirigible Ego.

About Me

It's so big it blots out the sun. It's so light it lifts you up. It's so fragile it might explode. If nothing else, it's one hell of a ride.Tired of waiting to hear the music in your head? Tired of waiting for music to come back in style that's unashamed to be pop but unashamed to have a brain in its head and use it? Ready for music that might kick your ass one minute and caress it the next? Remember when people got on stage with instruments because they needed to sing something, *needed* to make some noise ... not because they were trying to fit a scene or measure the confines of the mental cage they'd already locked themselves in?Remember when people gave a fuck about trying to do something well, but didn't give a fuck if they fell on their faces once in a while on the way there?Us too.Dirigible Ego is the "solo" musical project of Pete Chvany, bass player for Lilac Ambush. Based out of Zebra Repeat recording studios in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Influences: Influenced by every goddamn thing audible. Does it pick seven out of twelve tones from the scale and do something cool with 'em? Or does it do something with some weird-ass noise nobody ever thought to use before? Fabulous! Who gives a rat's ass beyond that--if one type of music doesn't grab you another one will, and if only one type of music grabs you and that's the one true path and you mutter to yourself all day about how nobody gets it and everyone but you is a poseur, only YOU know what "good" music is, check your head, baby, it's probably not the *music* you're into, it's your ego. Trust us on this, we know from big egos, look at our band name. :) Early Human League, TV On The Radio, LCD Soundsystem, Book of Love, Split Enz/Crowded House/Finn Brothers, Iron and Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, Junior Boys, Keane, Kraftwerk, U2, Talking Heads, Simple Minds, Soulwax, Dresden Dolls, Scissor Sisters, Arcade Fire, and Sigur Ros have been on our playlist lately. But this could change without warning. This week features The Dears. Next week might be Paul Weller. We went through a Covenant phase a few months ago.
Sounds Like: Some people are going to say "Joy Division" and "Depeche Mode" because there are synths and sequenced drums in some of the songs. And because singing in the low part of one's range can be fun. Yeah, well, it wouldn't kill us to be as well-regarded or influential as those bands. But then why the fuck is there a countryish song in our catalog? Why do we yearn to write the perfect pop ballad if we also want to write some cool piece of sad goth mopery? We sound like we want to play music in front of people. We sound like we give a shit.We sound like we're still learning our craft.Pick one of the above. Pick all of the above. Pick none of the above. :-)
