About Me

When only the best Myspace Layout will do
Like many people of my generation, I was born. I lived a nice, Leave it to Beaver, existence in my childhood, although we did move around quite a bit. I attended Washington and Lee University, and then did graduate work at the University of California at San Diego. After a brief stint in politics (working for the Dukakis presidential campaign), I settled at Front Range Community College, where I have been working for about 18 years. My ambition is to get much, much older, and then one day, in the far off future, die. I like achievable goals.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Paul McCartney, the Dalai Lama, Bob Crais, Douglas Coupland, George Martin,Michael Steele (the bass player for the Bangles), Patrick Hurley (author of A Concise Introduction to Logic), George Will, Ringo Starr, Jerry Brown, and Charlie Weiss. There are also quite a few dead people I'd like to meet, but not for a long, long , long time.

Music:

Anything related to Paul McCartney or any of his various bands, Wadirum, the Eagles, Ravi Shankar, Beethoven, the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Moody Blues, the Rolling Stones, the B-52's, the Bangles, Portishead, Rasputina, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra.

My Blog

Podcasting

Every semester, I try to focus on something new.  Last semester it was writing rubrics (thanks, Stew!), and this semester it is podcasting.  The way I like to do things it through...

Are Teachers Useless?

I'm starting to wonder why we have classes at all.  This lione of thinking started for me quite a few years ago when in a philosophy class a number of my students and I got in a discussion about ...

Election Day!

It's finally election day, and I am sure I am not the only one who is all too happy to see those political ads leave our airspace (or bandwidth).  I find it pathetic that the best each candidate ...
