BIOGRAPHYADRIANA SANCHEZ NIETO. Born in Bogota, Colombia. She has a B.A. in Dance, Music, Arts and Theater from CENDA University of Bogota. She is Choreographer, performer and actress. She has been teacher and choreographer at colleges, community centers and business companies for 21 years. She studied ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, tap, flamenco with professors from France, Germany, Chile, Cuba, and USA. She studied Colombian folklore at Academy Superior of Dance from Bogota with Jacinto Jaramillo, Nicolas Murillo and folkloroge Guillermo Abadia Morales. In USA has studied modern dance, dance composition, afro-American studies, hip-hop at the city college of San Francisco, and in New York at Broadway dance center, Dance Space studio. She continues doing researches about Caribbean and Colombian Negro Diaspora. Theatre was important as well to complement dance, she studied theatre at Academy Superior of Theatre and El teatro libre de Bogotá, COLOMBIA.From 1989-1999 Adriana Sanchez performed with different folklore ballet companies like; Ballet Tierra Colombiana, Ballet Jaime Orozco, Ballet Ligia de Granados, Ballet Fundación Arte Lírico Zarzuela y Operetta. She performed at theatre-dance in Academy superior of Art. “Colombia un Poema Danzado”, “Danza y Danzantes”, “Obra experimental”; Christmas Show “El País de los Juguetes”; Estación Central Producciones “Jesucristo Superestrella”; Ditirambo Teatro “La Metaformosis”; Primera Opera Techno Rock Latina “Dioses y Leyendas Chibchas”;In 1999 migrate to San Francisco, CA where participated in companies of ethnic dance, contemporary and theatre. Asociation Colombo-American, as choreographer and artistic director “Carnaval 2006” the Colombian contingent. With this group we won an award in “Choreography and enthusiasm” in traditional category; Carlos Barón y Cómplices, as Codirector, Choreographer and Actress; San Francisco State University, Rainbow Theatre, La Raza Students, as Choreographer; Agua Viva Cultural Foundation, as Actress y choreographer; Casa Cultural Colombiana, as actress, dancer and director, “El Mapale”, “Como somos los Colombianos de Colombianos” and short stories by her creation; José Navarrete and Friends “Two tangos and Kiss”, as dancer; Colombia Ethnic Dance, as dancer and choreographer; Horizons Unlimited Non-Profit, as instructor of Hip-Hop, Merengue, Salsa y Theatre; Good Samaritan, as dance instructor, exercise and nutrition..In 2004 traveled to New York for 6 months, studying dance and doing researches about Colombian Community. Living there born “Colombian Soul” her dance company that was born out of a necessity to express and to share who Sanchez was, where she came from, and what she lived each day in Colombia as well as in other part of the world. Through Colombian folkloric dance and short pieces of theatre, Adriana shows the vivid expressions,idiosyncrasies and dreams of the Colombian soul.Since 2005 Colombian Soul performs in San Francisco, San Jose and the bay area. The participants are from Colombia, USA with Colombian roots, Mexico and Honduras. They are training in the Alonzo King studios, every Friday at 7:30pm-9:30pm.She is teaching Afro-Colombian dance at the Mission Cultural Center for Latinos Art, Saturdays at 11:30am-1:00pm; Tuesdays at 6:00pm-7:30pm for Youth, adults, seniors also she has a group of kids in San Mateo County, Fridays at 5:00pm-6:15pm in San Francisco at 4:00pm to 5:oopm.Adriana Sánchez has a commitment with the Colombian Culture, she wants preserves the Colombia cultural performing and teaching the dances and music heritage to a new Colombian generations.…AS COLOMBIAN SOUL nace por una necesidad de expresar y compartir quienes somos, de donde venimos y lo que vivimos cada dia aqui, en Colombia y en cualquier rincon del mundo. La necesidad que tenemos como seres humanos de sentirnos acompanados, apoyados y queridos. Esto me hizo encontrar la razon de esa necesidad, que de una manera u otra existia en mi, pero no le habia dado rienda suelta a descubrir, a arriesgar la expresion de mis sentimientos, unicos y tan propios, pero al mismo tiempo tan iguales y tan de otros como los de todos los seres humanos. Ha llegado el momento de poner en escena todas esas expresiones, sentimientos, vivencias, idosincrasia, suenos y espiritu. A traves de la danza-teatro y el folclor Colombiano se desarrollan las obras de AS COLOMBIAN SOUL.
