The ConThe Con is On and the players are looking to take advantage of you today. How do they do it? They do it by enticing you with shoes you haven't seen for years, in your size and at a great price. Or maybe they have the absolute latest shoes, sometimes before they are even released, all for a decent low price. Don't fall for it. There are two main ways these con artists try to separate you from your cash. eBay and fake sites are the main way for these people to sell their goods. They find their way to your computer through search engines, seemingly good PayPal ratings and even well known basketball magazines. To the uninitiated it seems like there are a plethora of trusted sites on the net but to those who dig a little deeper will see cunningly laid trap just waiting to snap.First lets talk about eBay. eBay is an amazing place where you can find pretty much anything and sometimes at one heck of a good price. These con artists prey on the average user who thinks they are going to get a good deal. First of all they garner some decent feedback by buying cheap little items on eBay to boost their rating. One fake seller I tracked actually sold real shoes until he hit 100 positive feedbacks. He then put up 50+ auctions for fake shoes and sold every pair. One month later his id was deleted because the people who were taken for a ride lowered the hammer on them but only after a number of them they lost their money. Now for the hardest of all eBayer to catch, the eBayer using real pictures to sell fake shoes. Sometimes it is easy to spot them as they use "recycled" pictures, ones from other sites or other eBay auctions. In the Fake Shoes Pictures area you can see a perfect example of this. And when these guys get caught they start again with a new look but the same junk.WebsitesThe website con artists abides by no rules and create a seemingly plausible site which in reality is a spider web. Here is a perfect example of someone with a authentic enough looking site but there is zero chance you are going to receive the goods described. So the site looks professional, they have a toll free number and they have a shipping address. These are the things trusting people look for and they have them. The thing is this, it would cost under $500 for someone to create this website. A tollfree number is extremely cheap to get today and the shipping address is just a PO Box which anyone can hide behind. And the list of sites like this is staggering. And the sites who have a lot of real shoes and a few fake shoes is on the rise. And legally a site like ours has to pay a lawyer to contact each and every ISP to shutdown the site that is stealing our pictures which takes time and money. Unfortunately can't do anything about the fake sites not using our pictures. And if the website is hosted out of the country then we really have no way of dealing with them. Come Christmas time I know what is going to happen as it happens every year. A parent is going to call me and say they ordered shoes in November for their kid and they haven't received them yet. The parents probably typed in the name of the shoes in a search engine and bought them from the first legitimate looking site. I hate to break the bad news to them......
