My Interests

..

Music:

This is tough because I have eclectic taste. I love old R&B, classic rock, reggae, ska, and even some hip-hop. Stuff that's on heavy rotation in my car: Sublime, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Buju Banton, Frank Sinatra, Muddy Waters, Aretha Franklin And of course, Used Blues, with my favorite singer/guitar player!

Movies:

I love to laugh, so I'll take a comedy before anything else! I don't go out to the movies or even rent very often, but here are some that I had to own: Spaceballs, Monty Python's Life of Brian, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I Heart Huckabee's, Half Baked, Animal House, Trading Places, Dave Chappelle Stand-up, Eddie Izzard Stand-up, Mitch Hedberg Stand-up, Kill Bill (both) Oh, and sometimes my other half forces me to watch nerdy flicks about Mexican wrestlers and monsters (secretly, I enjoy them too)!

Television:

TV isn't conducive to higher learning, but when I need a distraction, this is how I might indulge: The Office, Chappelle Show (when it was on), Psych, Law & Order (pretty much all of them, but especially Criminal Intent), The Simpsons, CSI, Project Runway (though I can never catch the current season)

Books:

Recently, I haven't read much aside from a zillion of journal articles and other research-related documents. However, when I read for pleasure, I love biographies, especially about leaders of civil rights movements. I've read biographies about Martin Luther King, Jr., Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, and Nelson Mandela. I also love anything from Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Pablo Neruda, and Ayn Rand. Other stuff I've read and loved: The Jungle, 1984, The Odyssey, The Illiad (and other Greek mythology), Freakonomics, Jon Stewart's America, The Diary of Anne Frank, Where the Wild Things Are (one of my fave children's books), Plato's The Republic, Gideon's Trumpet, Our Common Future, Silent Spring, The House of the Spirits

Heroes:

Martin Luther King, Jr., Gandhi, Cesar Chavez (not the boxer)
