About Me

"This powerful, dark literate rock siren's incisive and interesting guitar work makes her latest, superb cd All the Plastic Animals the gold standard for slowly smoldering, fearlessly intelligent songwriting, infused with barely restrained rage and subtle wit." -Alan Young, Trifectagram NYCHaving been compared to Liz Phair for her straightforward lyrical tone and to Aimee Mann for her songwriting craft, Erika continues to defy the stereotypes of the female singer/songwriter with her prickly sense of humor and her characteristic air-and-light-infused delivery. With two solo CDs under her belt, Erika continues to perform around the NYC tri-state area. Her 2004 summer included a tour of the US west-coast as well as Europe in support of her second CD, All The Plastic Animals. As evidence of her continual evolution, this evocative album reveals a hearty and timeless collection of songs that was released at the end of 2003.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: erikasimonian.com
Band Members: C'est moi.
Influences: If I look at this as 'who inspired me to want to sing out', it's my mother, my 2nd grade music teacher, Ms. Herrmann, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. That covers the early years, then it was Liz Phair, Rufus Wainwright and many more. But it continues with lots of boy bands now, as in, the boys are singing the things that speak to me these days. Don't know why.
Sounds Like: Cat Power and Aimee Mann
Record Label: Self released
Type of Label: None

Rushing and not rushing

Christmas Day

It's quiet where I spend Christmas, but often only in the mornings. There are some loud characters in my family, but I'm not one of them. Even the clamor of conflicting birdsongs has quieted for now. ...

The end of a long day

Review of The Troals, Johnny B. Goode, 1979

Ok, Andy of the Sprinkle Genies had a band at age 15, known as The Troals. Stories I've heard about The Troals begin with theivery of the name. Andy's best friend, Tom Pandaleon (you may know him from...

Night Lights

I just took a run (not a regular thing) in Prospect Park after dark (totally unprecedented) and came 'round to the Lighting Ceremony, where they light the tree at Grand Army Plaza, and the arch. The a...
