The DUNE series, the ENDER's GAME series, Snow Crash, anything by Whitman, Kerouac, Keasy, Ginsberg, Sartre, or Phillip K Dick. I like to read weird books. Right now im reading Cadillac Desert by Marc Reisner. its an excellent account of the transformation of CA from an arrid desert into a suburban utopia (i.e. LA), and really gets in to just how much the great CA water project changed CA and its rivers and lakes.
