Worker killed in Cass County

CALVIN TOWNSHIP (AP) - A Saint Johns man died in a workplace accident in West Michigan.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood identifies the victim of yesterday's accident as 34-year-old Curtis Sorell. He worked for Kent Power Company of Kent City.
Underwood says Sorell was working on a new electrical substation yesterday afternoon when he came in contact with an area of high voltage and fell from the structure.
Co-workers began CPR, but Sorell was pronounced dead at the scene. It wasn't immediately known if he was electrocuted or was killed by the fall.

Curtis Warren Sorell St. Johns, MI Born February 23, 1972, in San Antonio, TX; died August 7, 2006, at the age of 34. Curtis was employed as an Electrical Journeyman and had been a member of Electric W.C.B. for 8 years. As a musician he enjoyed playing guitar in several bands and was a very loving father. Surviving are his wife, Jennifer Louise (Haggerty) Sorell; daughter, Isabella Alexandria Sorell and son, Robert Booker both of St. Johns; his father, Thomas (Chris) Sorell and his mother, Mary (Dan) Middaugh both of Battle Creek; brother, Kyle Sorell; sister, Kelcie Sorell; and his father and mother-in-law, David and Dianna Haggerty of DeWitt. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11, at noon at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 111 S. Franklin St., DeWitt, with the Rev. Mark St. Louis officiating. Interment will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to a trust fund for his children, c/o LAFCU, 106 N.
