About Me
We are W R Maxime and United Caribbean Mass Choir Inc., a not-for-profit organization under the direction of Minister W. R. Maxime. We are a group of young individuals of different nationalities, origin, and churches, who sing dance and act. Apart from performing we have an outreach program called UCMC Gospel Outreach Ministry which ministers in prisons, hospitals, and homeless shelters; in addition we perform various community service.
The organization initially started about three or four years ago with the purpose of Maxime uniting his eleven different church choirs in a coalition choir. His vision was to unite young people in the Gospel to work for the community. These choirs used to perform at various concerts and helped encourage people toward Christ. They also counseled and held concerts in prisons. They later progressed from this coalition choir to the United Caribbean Mass Choir, who subsequently created the program known today as, UCMC Gospel Outreach Ministry which started in January of 2004 and registered in June of 2004.
As an organization geared toward young people, we are aware of the problems in our community: There are people in the community thirsting after deliverance and guidance, lacking spiritually, in need of love and comfort, and are unhappy; There are a lot of young people who are interested in negative kinds of music, which are influencing them in the wrong way. Instead of people working together to progress, they turn against each other in gangs; There is a segregation between churches and nationalities; Children are being subjected to corruption and grow up to be unsuccessful, homeless or in jail; Help is needed in our public schools and after school programs. The community needs something that will bring their attention toward Christ and positiveness, in song, dance, and activity. These services are needed in lower social economy communities such as ours; Schools, parks, and public facilities have been vandalized by graffiti and need to be cleaned. As a way of resolving these problems, W R Maxime and United Caribbean Mass Choir Inc. has conducted this program, where we reach those that need it most. Our community work in New York City is never ending. We believe that there are many suffering for the word of God. We plan on spreading the word through positive music and dance. Our choir’s music and dancer’s style is different from contemporary Gospel and will attract the attention of the young people, who are interested in music such as rap, R&B, and rock. Our diversity in expression will attract anyone, young and old.
With the name United Caribbean Mass Choir, we believe in unity and plan on teaching it. We will go anywhere we’re needed, counseling the prisoners and helping them understand that there is still hope. We will travel to the low-income neighborhoods, who have less of everything, and help clean up the classrooms, streets, and paint walls that have been vandalized by graffiti. We plan on counseling the homeless and working toward ending homelessness in our communities. These issues are everywhere, especially in New York City. It has become an epidemic. We not only want to help these people but we want to stop it from the beginning. For this reason, we try to reach young children who are more prone to become statistics. We work with and counsel them away from bad situations. Every year we conduct a Angel Tree Party, where toys and articles of clothing are given to children with an incarcerated parent, we later visit their homes and pray with them. We also conduct annual food drives and feed the homeless. Our outreach work operates by choir members and other volunteers going into the streets in different groups. The choir goes out periodically and ministers alone or with the dancers. We will also give free live concerts in parks and schools.
Our organization is not only geared toward the community, but with such devastation going on in the Caribbean countries, we feel that we have an obligation there as well. For that reason we have built a school in Haiti, called the Shining Star and an orphanage.
