Started in the streets of Tokyo where the street culture evolved independently of the west with information and influences from around the world always mixing together, TYO EMPIRE got its start in a corner of a shop called Bounty Hunter in Harajuku in 1998.
While the designs are very casual and have always been "street", TYO EMPIRE clothing is made to be worn with more high-end fashion items.This is the concept and attitude of TYO EMPIRE.
TYO EMPIRE's director, Takayoshi Shirakawa, has over ten years experience in his career as a musician and is known as someone who's music covers many genres such as rock, hip hop, reggae, and soul. He has played with such artists as N.E.R.D., the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bjork, the Foo Fighters, and many others.
The name TYO EMPIRE points to Japan's singular culture, art, and technology.The brand mixes many styles and cultures while adding the street culture essence we call "TOKYO-EYES". TYO EMPIRE continues to transmit to the world from the underground angle.
