Eleazar "eLi" Nava grew up in a musical home. He was born in 1970 in Chula Vista,CA. His father and mentor Rev. E. Nava Sr., a professional tenor sax player, played with many popular Latino Christian bands in the early 60's and 70's. His father's music exposed Eli to just about every style of music from Christian to Jazz. His father an avid music fan and collector of great Jazz music. Eli grew up listening to the likes of Tito Puente, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, and Ray Barretto; Christian bands like Los Latinos and Los Heraldos, plus many more. Eli now holds a collection of records given to him by his father, who is now a pastor in Tacoma,WA. Eli started playing Latin percussion at the age of 16 years old and is a self-taught percussionist. His influences are Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Francisco Aguabella, Armando Peraza, Alex Acuna, Poncho Sanchez, Tata Guines,Mongo Santa Maria, Changuito,Walfrdo De Los Reyes Sr., Luis Conte,
Lenny Castro, Karl Perazzo, and Giovanni Hidalgo just to name a few. Eli has shared the stage with such artists as;
David Benoit, The Rippingtons, Warren Hill, Commissioned, GB5,Isaac Escamilla, Paul Jackson Jr., Detric Hidden,Joseph Espinoza,Luis Enrique Espinoza,Veronica Leal,Ericson Alexander Molano, Amanda Dumas, Eric Darius, Rick Braun, Alex Acuna, Michael Lington and many more. Eli now resides in Orange County,CA and is married to his beautiful wife Maribel and has two beautiful daughters Skyla and Giselle. Eli is currently involved in his local church, West Coast Christian Tabernacle, in Santa Ana,CA as a full-time musician, and also as a percussionist for VEGA band, an up and coming nu-jazz group. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, collecting hand made percussion instruments from all over the world and collecting records.
