About Me

Leila White is a half Japanese and half American U.S citizen, and a typical army brat raised all over... Hawaii, North Carolina, Georgia, New York, Kansas, Korea, and Japan. After singing at clubs and with a band in the renowned theme park where mice, fairies and princesses live in harmony, in 1995 Leila White released her debut album "Endless Dream" from an independent label. This album consisted of layed back tunes in "house" rhythm, but with a jazzy arrangement of clean background vocals, which would be known as a major feature of Leila's music...that is, of the time. Another feature is Leila's voice itself. With probably vocal cords similar to those of Karen Carpenter, she basically keeps it low. Yet, when she does go for the high notes, there's an interesting unbalance. The mature, cool suddenly goes to cute, coquettish...a weave of 2 different qualities not many artists own. "Border Line" the Madonna cover earned heavy rotation in clubs and FM radio stations, and this lead to the next album "Magenta." This record also did well, and major label Victor Entertainment took notice. Leila's 3rd album "Primitive" was launched by Victor in '97 and became the artist's biggest hit. Leila this time covered the old Rose Royce (remember "Car Wash?") tune "Best Love" which would also be a radio station favorite. The disco flavored 4th album "Time To Fall In Love" was released in '98. Although the sales wasn't as high as the previous, this is another album owners will surely pull out and play once in a while for comfort. Leila's last album was "The Best" a greatest hits album released in 2001. Whether it's jazzy, pop, R&B, disco, or soft rock, if Leila White sings it the genre is "Leila White." Leila never goes the whole nine yards nor makes an effort to flaunt her vocal talent. Everything is natural and emotional...down to earth. Sad songs are sung sadly, cheerful songs are sung cheerfully, and the angry ones are done angrily. Leila White's music never gets in your way, yet never lacks existance. Leila White is a VOICE. The voice from which you will recognize the song.

The date is yet to be set but Leila is in the process of finally making another album...the first in seven years. Information will be posted as soon as it is possible. For those who are interested, stay alert!

We've been having a terribly hot summer this year in Japan and have had ten straight days with a temperature of about 40 degrees centigrade when it's bad. I can't believe youngsters are still willing...
