About Me
Bachlubaki is born in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) under true name of Patrick Lubaki Balumeso, in 4 March 1969, in the warmest suburb of Kinshasa the Capital, the very famous district of the artists, Matonge. He’s been grown up among 3 boys and 4 girls. One of his sisters (the oldest) died in 1998.
In 1973, his father, diplomat of career, moved in Japan for a government mission where all the family lived four years. It is in Tokyo where Bachlubaki felt in love with music by listening to the legendary tubes (Let it be, Imagines, My Way, Endless Love, Stay Alive) that his brothers and sisters used to play on the Hi-fi deck of the living room. Very quickly, he’s been attacked by the virus of music at the age of 4, and still by now, music is in the center of all his interests, the real and the only sense of his existence.
At the end of the 70’s, he’s gone back in Kinshasa. At 11 years, he began to write his own songs. And when he was 14 years, he was one of the leaders of “Les Breakers Fous“, a Hip-Hop/rap and Break Dance band. After moving from the Hip-Hop movement, he created with some of his best childhood friends (the brothers Kim and Christophe Meko, also, Richard Lumbala), his first amateur Rock music group, named SFW (Stand up For the World) which wrote severals songs against poverty and injustice in worldwide. This one had difficulty in asserting itself because the producers judged its style incompatible with the requirements of the public which gave more consideration to the typically Congolese Rumba. This failure was long but not insuperable. Meantime, Bachlubaki continued to write its most beautiful songs.
Later, in 1999, he had the opportunity to participate in the Pan-African Festival of the Music ( FESPAM) in Brazzaville where he accompanied the group “ Nyota ya Mama “ - which means Stars Girls - (One Chorus girls Band which militated for the Congolese emancipation of women, the only one of the kind after the disappearance of Taz Bolingo), as Co-Founder, Manager and Songwriter. He wrote effectively some songs for the group. Some of them have been used for the Peace Campaign during the war in Great Lakes (1998-2003). This campaign was organized under the leadership of the Archdiocese of Kinshasa (directed by the Deceased Cardinal Frederic Etsou), on the initiative of the Lindonge Think-Tank for the Peace ( GRPL) which has been composed by several young artists, mainly from Kinshasa, but also coming from others regions of DRC. All were mobilized around a slogan: STOP THE WAR ! STOP THE PLUNDER OF DRC. The group motivated the International Community to pay attention on the implication of some multinational firms in the Congolese conflict, which armed differents rebels groups in order to take control of the richest regions (Katanga, Kivu, Kisangani, Kasaï…). Because of this action, some of Bach's collaborators has been arrested by the local authorities, but, Bachlubaki escaped to jail fortunately, especially since he was the secretary reporter of the movement. Meanwhile, the population become each day more and more poor. Supervised by the Father Daniel KATONA, the GRPL had become an inescapable associative platform for the reopening of the peace in Congo, until its dissolution in 2003.
From 1998 till 2001, Bachlubaki worked as educator of young people within the Italian NGO (COE-Centre of Educational Orientation), as music presenter (music driving force), for a project of reintegration financed by the European Union in favour of the children living in difficult environment (ESPD project).
In 2003, struck by a paralysing scoliosis, it is in wheelchair that Bachlubaki was forced to be evacuated towards Belgium where he found his family, to benefit from appropriate health care, for lack of adequate medical infrastructures in his own country. In November 2004, he met Artibano Benedetto (music producer in Louvière, Belgium) who, appreciating his artistic performances (singer, author-interpreter), has not hesitate to give him the chance to sign for his Indie Label “SIPEM PRODUCTIONâ€. This collaboration gave birth to an album published in the end of 2006 and in which will participate many other artists of Brussels and Wallonie, even international celebrities as Ella Wood (Magic Platters lead vocal). This entitled album â€BOURGEOIS†should serve as support of sensitization in favour of the action against the poverty in Belgium, through a musical comedy project whose he was the official writer. The echo of this CD was not certainly loud, but according to its own comments, the experience was wonderful.
In February, 2006, Bachlubaki has been contacted for joining †ZILBANUM†, a polyphonic group of Brussels which interprets world songs, full of rhythms and the folklores, in a packaging of impressing cultural varieties. To cross some Pop in the polyphony is not obviously well-to-do. Nevertheless, at the end of some months, Bachlubaki eventually found its way within ZILBANUM. " My mother always incited me to be a part of a Christian choir. She is herself a chorus-singer and was ruling in a Protestant choir during around thirty year. Doubtless that she would have wanted to insure her relieve. I found that stuck and old-fashioned to sing among hundred of people on the same stage. But with ZILBANUM, I discovered another reality of this kind of formation : the harmony in a group, the complicity of a team, the shared feelings, to go every time beyond his vocal limits, the generosity and the sincerity in an interpretation, the improvisation and the overtaking of one, in brief, so many ingredients to pepper shows or events. It is the proof that we never stop learning despite our personal experience of life At any rate, it is my mother who goes out of it cheered up. ", he tells.
For the moment, Bachlubaki prepares the release of its next opus which will claim to be able to include a spit varied by artists coming from all the Belgium around a subject of current events «The childhood". In July, 2007, he presented for the attention of certain critics a project as he drafted in its entirety, in touch with the theme of the CD in gestation, which held attention. Right now, the singer remains still evasive on the question, preferring to keep his secret jealously, by waiting for the realization of the aroused project. As nobody would say : No Comment ! CHUT !!!
