NAKAJIMA Nobuyuki is a pianist, composer, and orchestrator based in Japan. Born July 31st, 1969.
His performance style and the tone of piano resemble that of French modern music, but also reflect New Wave, Jazz, Bossa Nova, Techno, House, Reggae, Hip-Hop and Film score music.
In his twenties, he introduced his classical pieces at exhibitions and concerts. "LOST LOST LOST" (for two violas, two cellos, and piano + film 8mm), "Closing Eyes, Start Talking" for solo piano, "Le temps flottant" (pour violoncelle et piano), "LUX AETERNA" (pour clarinette, contrebasse et chour mixte), "Trois Pieces" (pour deux violons), "SERENA" purgatorio canto XIX (pour chour mixte)...etc
"Clair-Obscur" pour orchestre, and "L'ombre des arbres" pour orchestre, are among the few of his unreleased orchestra pieces.
His career takes off when he joined Port of Notes’ album. He also joined the early recordings and tours of Kama Aina. It was about this time that he went on board a project with CALM, an artist who dominated the dance floor scene in Japan. He also dedicated himself to a project with Yoshihiro Hanno a.k.a RADIQUE, a musician now based in Paris, with the recording of his album “Eien no Ko (OST)†(00). Their relationship continues on for another three Yoshihiro Hanno's albums, “Platform (OST)†(01), “Lido†(03), and “Angelus†(05) as a pianist.
In 2004, he joined the recording of combo piano’s album "Agatha" where he successfully combined Clave’s groove of cuban music and Bernard Herrmann like string quartet. He then joined singer/songwriter Miyuki Hayakeyama’s concert “Live at Gloria Chapel†as a musical director, orchestrator, and a pianist. The same year he joined Naruyoshi Kikuchi, one of the leading saxophone player, in his new album, "degustation à jazz". He arranged a duet of Naruyoshi Kikuchi’s saxophone and Otomo Yoshihide’s guitar by adding a string quartet. This is an atonal bossa nova instrumental piece with the strings resembling that of Alban Berg + Claus Ogerman.
In 2005, he joined Naruyoshi Kikuchi’s album "Elizabeth Taylor en Amérique Du Sud" as an orchestrator. In the same year, he made appearance at a concert JAZZ TODAY as NOBUYUKI NAKAJIMA ENSEMBLE.
In 2006, he joined Naruyoshi Kikuchi’s album "La pensée sauvage". In this album he provides his original song "suite : Viola Tricolor". He also joined a jazz album “cure jazz†compiled by one of the most famous diva in Japan, UA and Naruyoshi Kikuchi, arranging the masterpiece “Luiza†by A.C.Jobim into a baroque style and introducing a brass arrangement in a swing style. Later, he joined the guitar duo, GONTITI album, "garyuu hitosuji" as an orchestrator. Also joined the concert of a world renowned visual/sound artist Takagi Masakatsu as a string arrangement.
His first solo album " ETE,Palma ~ a vague impression of the summer ~ " is on sale from East Works Entertainment . Not only does this album include Nakajima’s original music, but includes arrangements of music from composer Federico Mompou of Catalonia, Spain, master of bossa nova Vinicius de Moraes, and Duke Ellington. Musicians participating include Kazumi Watanabe, Naruyoshi Kikuchi, Goro Ito a.k.a MOOSE HILL, kama aina, Ren Takada a.k.a RT, Masato Suzuki (from Little Creatures), Takayoshi Matsunaga (ex: mute beat), Yasuhiro Yoshigaki (from Vincent Atmicus), Satoshi Kitamura, Miho Ota, CANTUS.... The sound of piano, guitar, bandoneon, string trio, saxophone, bass, female chorus, are blended and arranged into something like a chamber music, which was recreated in the album release concert.
In 2007, he will launch a series of concert under the title "24 Preludes and Fugues", all songs newly written. The project aims to complete all songs by early next year and announce them every other months in a special venue. In July, a saxophone quartet “Untitledâ€, which has been commissioned by Tsuda Hall, will be performed in a music festival, “Summer of Tokyoâ€. A piano solo album and ETEPALMA ENSEMBLE are next projects in the line-up.
