About Me

Hailing from Aomori Prefecture, Supercar was formed in 1995 when Bassist Miki Furukawa (16) placed an ad in a local magazine seeking fellow musicians. Junji Ishiwatari (18) responded, and convinced childhood friend Koji Nakamura (18) to join in. Junji and Koji soon recruited drummer Kodai Tazawa (17), an aquaintance from middle school. After writing songs and recording demo tapes, they landed a record deal. In 1997 they released their first album, Three Out Change. Next, Supercar received critical acclaim with their sophomore album, JUMP UP released in 1999. This album was followed by Ooyeah!! And Ookeah!!, both also released in 1999. Next came Futurama in 2000, which was a small departure from their previous sound, this time incorpating and experimenting with new electronic sounds. 2002's Highvision showcased even more of an electronica sound. The single Strobolights, for example, did not even contain a guitar. They released their last album, Answer in 2004. This is their most experimental album, with a nice balance between both rock and electronica. The songs are all very unique and diverse, and Koji's voice shows major strength and growth.
In 2005, they announced their plans to break up. They held one last concert, and released a DVD of it titled Last Live. Since then, Miki Furukawa has released a solo album, and Koji released some solo albums under the names Nyantora, as well as iLL. These albums are entirely instrumental. He also provided vocals for the songs Motion Blur and Heart Breaker on techno artist Kagami's album Spark Arts.
All album names and song titles are in English. The lyrics, mostly written by Junji, alternate between English and Japanese. In 2005, their song Storywriter from the album Highvision was used as an insert song in the popular anime series Eureka 7.
The sound of SUPERCAR may not be as flashy as their as name implies, but the foursome has a knack of making something commonplace seen extraordinary. As for speed, they’ve certainly raced through the Japanese music world.Ever since their debut in 1995,SUPERCAR quickly became accepted as one of the top musicians to represent Japan.Their popularity can easily be explained. There simply is no other band that consists of the flavor and the talent of SUPERCAR.
Singer/guitarist KOJI NAKAMURA has one of a kind sense for his minimal sound making and voice that can express the most delicate emotions. Bassist MIKI FURUKAWA ’s sound has gotten stronger than ever before, and she has amazing presence as a vocalist.KoDAI TAZAWA’s talented drum playing accomplishes any difficult rhythms. And finally there is JUNJI ISHIWATARI,who produces the progressive lyrics that crosses many emotions and scenery that touches our hearts.According to KOJI NAKAMURA,their distinctive sonic dichotomy “comes from our love of loud music on one hand, and our love for melodies on the other. We try to stay true to both and balance them out.”
