Born in Somerset, England, 1977 to a musical family, Paul Dwyer studied the piano from the age of 7 and Later the French horn and the trumpet. Paul took up the double bass at age 17 and started playing in his college big-band and frequented a jazz work-shop in Bristol.
At 18 he went to London to study at the university of Westminster and pursue a career as a bassist.
He lived in London for 7 years and freelanced with various jazz and Brazilian bands, played in a local jam session house band and was a member of the South London Jazz Orchestra.
Paul has travelled and played in Brazil and Japan and is especially influenced by the folkloric forms of both countries.
In 2002 Paul moved to Japan and studied "Nagauta" shamisen for two years with Yuri Okayasu. He performs regularly in Tokyo with local artists and many of the foreign musicians living in Japan and international guests.
Paul has studied the bass with John Edwards and Buster Williams.
