Rosie Staf was born in August 1981 on the countryside of southern Sweden. While growing up she was always surrounded by music, all kinds of music; worldmusic, pop, classical music, folksongs, rock, soul… Her mother was very in to world music and actually gave birth to Rosie while listening to arabic folkmusic.
And Rosie started her musical education by playing the flute and singing in choirs. As a teenager she moved on to singing along with records whenever she was home alone, and a short period she even had a band playing popsongs and they managed to perform once(!) before they quit playing together..
Later on Rosie has studied jazzsinging and classical composition. She has written music for choir and different types of chambermusic. Her influences in classical composition are mostly French composers such as; Debussy, Eric Satie and very much also the now living Yann Tiersen.
As a part of realizing what was her style, she formed a band which allows her to continue playing with different genres and influences. Adding one instrument at the time, all of a sudden she realized she had created the little orchestra.
The little orchestra, to her, is the perfect formation. Big enough for variations but small enough to get that intimate and fragile sound she loves.
“Rosie Staf composes her music as easy and natural as snowfall on a cold evening. Her influences comes from calm and storytelling music that is often well orchestrated. She masters it all and her intimate voice is the crown on top of it all. It grabs you, don't let go and makes me never wanting to turn this offâ€/ Groove Magazine
