I am here for Friends

About Me

Well the first thing you should know about me is that I am totally awesome. Seriously. I rock. In fact, I've often been told that I'm "the coolest". I should also tell you that I'm incredibly average. I find that people are more comfortable when you set that kind of expectation up front. You should also know that I am a left wing nut job who, oddly, also really likes guns. I'm all about contrast. Go figure. I'm a hellacious cook, and aside from being pretty good at fixing stuff it's my only real talent. I enjoy the company of my friends, around whom I tend to drink too much. Like every good Southern man I'm absolutely obsessed with sports. As a result, the weekends tend to get a little rough. Women are my absolute greatest weakness, as most of my lady friends will readily tell you. Wrap all that goodness up in an AMAZINGLY awkward body and you've got me, which is nice.
P.S. - Want to get to know me better? I recommend taking a look at my Amazon wish list. I'm not suggesting that any of you buy me a present, but if you absolutely HAD to pick something up for your favorite Steineker then I'd be more than happy to receive anything from this list. That's mostly because I made it. By the way, you should know two things about this list. First, it should be sorted by priority (high to low) and second, IT IS AWESOME! Anyway, here's the link...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Alton Brown from the Food Network. I love that guy! He's always having fun and learning at the same time. I dig that about him. I'd also like to meet Ed Viesturs. He was the first American to summit all 14 of the worlds 8000 meter peaks without supplemental oxygen. He did it the right way, too. He never lost a partner in the mountains, never had to be rescued, never was seriously injured, and never even got frostbite. He's quite the hardass. I think I would like to have lunch with Bill and Melinda Gates, but I'm not sure what we'd talk about. I really think what they're doing with their foundation is amazingly important, and that it has the potential to truly better our world. That's noble and it's good. It's the sort of thing you forget about because it's not done very often. It's the kind of thing that happens when good people get together and recognize that, by having the means, they also have an obligation to effect change. That's amazing to me. Also, it's a WHOLE lot more than I can ever imagine doing with a shit ton of money, so there you go.

My Blog

So I quit smoking.  I've been 9 days without any nicotine other than what comes through my arm via a transdermal patch.  It's every bit as fun as you'd imagine.McCharen's in town.  It's...

An interesting situation

I've been watching my priest's kids all week. He and his wife decided to spend a week out of town while the kids (ages 15 and 17) were on fall break. I can't fault them. I don't really like hanging...

I spent the afternoon judging a debate tournament at my high school.  I'm doing it as a favor to the debate coach there.  We're not really friends or anything, but we went to school together...
