Matthew Christopher Dunlap (born November 25, 1981), better known by his stage name Bluechip, is an American recording artist. After his group Typsi was signed to now defunct Starr Entertainment he decided to pursue college as his plan B. He moved to attend school at Pittsburg State University where he was still active in freestyle battles. After meeting Juan G of On 1 Entertainment, he started recording again which resulted in his first mix tape "Failure Is Not An Option" being released to underground critical acclaim in 2005.
After graduating with a business degree Bluechip moved back to Kansas City, Kansas and gave corporate America a shot. Feeling the void of music, he paired up with longtime friend and producer Travis Anderson to work on his debut album, and in the meantime released his follow up mix tape "The Bluevinci Code" in 2007. He is currently finishing up the album "A Cold Winter" set for release on November 26, 2009.
Musically Bluechip is inspired by such acts as: Jay Z, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, and fellow Kansas City native Tech N9ne.
Early Life:
Bluechip was born on November 25, 1981 and raised in Kansas City, Kansas as the youngest son to Sandy and Matthew Dunlap. As a teen, Bluechip would sit in on the recording sessions of his older brother's group causing him to realize that he also had the talent to be an artist. After this Bluechip and two of his closest friends formed the group Typsi. The group later disbanded as Bluechip went off to study business and start a solo career.
