Our Very, Very Ultimate Bio
The Blind Ambition was formed in late summer of 2006 with three original members being Ryan Middledorf on guitar, Ty Owens on drums, and Zach Hanson on bass. The only band experience anyone had was Zach who was in a band in Charlottesville known as The Deltas. The Blind Ambition had their first jam session in July of 2006 in Ty’s basement where they sucked to say the least for about three and a half hours. Over the course of a couple months the three of us became much better playing as a band rather than playing individually. Through this time the band went through many member changes such as the additions of some amazing singers and rhythm guitarists (all of which never worked out). Nothing was working out for us as a band, until they stumbled along an awesome synth player (Josh Rohrbaugh).
Finally with the addition of a synth player we started to jam again after a rather long hiatus, and we came back with more enthusiasm, creating better music than we ever had before. Months still went by and they needed a singer after the others never worked out. After about two and a half months of looking for other possible singers, we got word that Katy Hannah of the band Move In Monday, was very interested in singing so we auditioned her as a singer, she had an amazing voice, and it worked out perfectly. After a rocky year-long start the band was finally complete.
The band name went through many changes as well, at the beginning, we were known as The Constant, a band name that Ryan, Ty and Jason Gottlieb thought up. That name stuck for a rather long time, until Ty “amazingly†thought up the band name The…? Needless to say that name stuck around for about ten minutes, the name The…? Is still taped to Ty’s drum kit, I don’t know why we have never removed it. One day at practice Ryan thought up the name The Blind Ambition, based on the book ‘The Blind Ambition’, and to this day that has, and will always be the name. (As far as we know.)
