About Me

EMAIL ME OR ADD ME TO MESSENGER - [email protected] was born in Birmingham (UK), on August 21st 1969. I lived in Birmingham for most of my life, until I moved to Bewdley a couple of years ago. My Dad is probably solely responsible for me getting into Music in the first place - He played Bass Guitar in various Country bands based in Birmingham in the 70's, these included Nashville Dream, Tulsa Queen, and Bus Brown & Driftwood. I vaguely remember watching Nashville Dream play an outside daytime gig when I was about 5, and standing in front of the Guitarist, a fella by the name of Keith Farr. I watched him playing his solos, and wondered why it made me feel 'weird'. I now know that feeling to be the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end! Dad bought me an Acoustic guitar for Christmas when I was 7 - I recall the tears when I realized I couldn't play straight away... It was before one of Dad's gigs with Bus Brown that I started to get interested in playing - He was plucking away on the Acoustic, the tune was "Frightened City" by The Shadows. So after he went out playing, I grabbed the guitar and taught myself the tune. The bug had bitten! Various influences took my attention, and shortly after it hit home that I wasn't going to be Trevor Francis I turned my focus completely to Music. I took 'O' level Music and Grade 8 Classical guitar in my mid - teens. In my mis 20's I decided to go back to College (again) and succeeded in getting a B.Mus from Birmingham Conservatoire. I have been in a few Bands of differing styles, this chord melody stuff isn't the only thing I do! Various original material Bands have been 'graced' with my presence, I have actively played Country since my Dad discovered me on the passenger seat on the way to a gig when I was 15. I've also played in Rock covers bands, Blues, and studied a bit of Jazz whilst at University. I even played around the Folk circuit for a couple of years! Most of the solo pieces you can listen to here were arranged using EADGBE standard guitar tuning, apart from "You're My Best Friend" which is in dropped D. "Jump" uses DADGAD tuning, as does 'Norwegian Wood'.............Various 'Bass' parts in the ensemble pieces are in dropped 'D', due to occasional D's and Eb's. Thanks to Brian Wilson and Bjorn/Benny for that!======================================================= ========================================= Equipment List - Boss BR-1180 Digital Recorder. Fender Telecaster with American Fender Bridge pickup, Mexican Fender Neck pickup, 4-way switch (allows both pickups in series AND parallel), and Gold hardware. Redwing Tornado. Parker P38. 'Lindo' Eectro Acoustic (50 quid off Ebay). No trickery with copying and pasting, everything is recorded in realtime. **OH YES IT WAS**

Edwyn Collins

Watched the BBC2 documentary on Edwyn last night. What a truly moving piece of TV. For those of you that don't know who he is - he fronted a Glaswegian Pop band in the early 80's and had a big hit wit...
